Downing College has a completely different vibe from the older medieval colleges β itβs wide, bright, and surprisingly peaceful. The moment you walk in, you notice the huge green lawns and the classical architecture that gives the whole place a calm, almost elegant symmetry. The college was founded in the early 1800s, which makes it one of the newer Cambridge colleges, and you can see that in the design. Everything feels more open and airy compared to the narrow alleys of the older colleges. It was originally built to reflect the ideals of the Enlightenment, and honestly, it still feels like a place made for clear thinking and slow walking. Itβs a great spot to wander through if you enjoy clean lines, Georgian architecture, and big open spaces. Even as a visitor, you get that quiet βCambridge momentβ without the crowds. Perfect for a peaceful stroll, great photos, and a little break from the busy city centre.

Downing College? Only Cambridge college founded in 1800 after a 273-year dry spell. Tiny: 475 students, 50 fellowsβattention like a private club. Supervisions? Weekly, face-to-face, brilliant minds, no hiding.

I went here for the First Story Festival! Beautiful grounds. The Library and Rose Garden looked wonderful! And the Chapel looked perfect for Worship! And the lecture hall was perfect for talks. Really incredible place.

For some reason, each time my team pay for events here, the porters make it their mission to be as rude as possible. We spend thousands, book ourselves in for parking, but are then met with ridicule, bemusement and general disdain when entering the office to ask for instructions. Suffice to say I shall be advising my organisation against booking here in future, in favour of another college.

Nice room in a very lovely campus in Central Cambridge. Unfortunately, on the last night there was a very noisy function in the garden below that went on until midnight. Very loud.

If you are looking for a convenient and beautiful 'new' college to visit in Cambridge, then Downing is a great choice. It has amazing courtyards surrounded with pastel yellow buildings. There is a cafe within and Heong Gallery always has nice exhibits displayed.

Fantastic venue for an event or conference. Plenty of accommodations (though not luxurious) with a phenomenal atmosphere for a large function that encourages you to open your mind to new ideas. Catering was fantastic as well.
