I appreciate moving house is stressful, but Trethowans made the situation much worse. The only time they were efficient with communication was when they sent the bill. I used Trethowans to purchase my house in 2021. Although there was no onward chain, the whole process took around six months to complete. Seventeen months after moving in, I have eventually received the final paperwork. This was consistent with the general attitude and poor communication. Throughout the whole process, I came under the impression that wealthier clients, who were benefitting from the Stamp Duty holiday, were being prioritised. I continually needed chase and phone to get any updates on how the process was going and felt that if I did not do that, I would have been waiting even longer to move. The worst instance was when my solicitor put the phone down on me, after I phone because of the lack of communication! The only reason I remained with them after this incredibly rude act was that I did not want to put myself through the stress of beginning the process all over again. When I tried to raise a complaint with Trethowans, I found it almost impossible to get through to anyone and gave up trying. In terms of the report itself, I did not appreciate the partial loft conversion in my house being described as ‘posh storage’. I found this phrase patronising, unhelpful and dismissive. I would not recommend this company to anyone buying their first house because they only made a stressful situation worse than it needed to be.
