Excellent pub with extremely friendly staff and landlady. I have been having some afternoon meetings in this very cosy pub and this evening had the chance to try their food. A perfect ham egg and chips hit the spot. Feels like a country pub in the back streets of Winchester. Who could ask for more. Looking forward to many more visits and working my way through the menu. Pub was full to the brim when I left at 7pm so best to book I guess if you are visiting.

Second visit and just a lovely, quirky place to stay, perfect location within walking distance of christmas market. Had an evening meal as well and both excellent food and service. Will definitely visit again!

A great lunch stop on a section of the Camino de santiago walk from ovington to shawford. Fis and chips with tarter sauce and mushy peas were delicious Atmosphere and service were great. Well worth a visit if you're in Winchester

Lovely little gem in nestled in residential Winchester with a nice spacious garden in dappled shade. Perfect for a hot day. There’s a small playground area for the kids to enjoy and the inside is warm and welcoming. The Level Head (beer) was off when I got it but immediately replaced with a different beer by the staff who were polite and quick to resolve.

Our room was very cute and comfortable. Loved the decor. Quiet and peaceful even though over a pub! Really handy to walk into Winchester. Friendly, chatty staff. We didn't eat there - no reason other than wanted to go out and explore the city as we were only there one night.

Nice pub off the beaten strip. Good food and lovely drinks on tap. Worth a visit if you take a little walk off the centre. Less than ten mins walk from the centre. Stayed in the "Small Double Room". Room was a bit chilly and there was an annoying fire light glow on in the room. Building is cosy and quirky. Staff were all very helpful and friendly and accommodating.

Booked the twin room for one nights stay. This is a wonderful character pub and the hostess is very friendly and welcoming. Good parking and just a 10 minute walk from glorious Winchester. We had a lovely time.

What a fab place to stay. The King Alfred has bags of character and we received a super warm welcome. Our room was lovely. The breakfast option is a wonderful touch. I would highly recommend staying here and when we are next in Winchester this will be our go to place. Don’t wait - book!

Wonderful food! Me and my wife had a sharing board between the two of us, a main eat and shared a desert. The steak and Stilton pie was to die for and the drinks were more than reasonable priced, will defiantly be coming back
