No issues with the company after 6 years of golf insurance with them. The low rating has come because of my claim experience thus far. Woodgate & Clark are the appointed loss adjusters and I’ve not had any sort of update from them for 2 weeks after my claim submission which I would suggest is unacceptable and not meeting Consumer Duty. I’m unsure of W&C’s SLA’s but based on this experience so far I will not currently be looking to renew my policy through Sportscover Direct. I will seek a policy that has alternative Loss Adjusters in place on the basis of any future claims that may arise, albeit I hope I never have to go through a claim experience again.

I had an injury coming down from Mount Kilimanjaro and Sportscover Direct were BRILLIANT. They arranged for helicopter to get me down last step of mountain , they arranged flights home for me and were easy to contact. Received excellent service at a time of need

I had heard good things about this company however unfortunately my experience was atrocious. I had a fracture-dislocation of my collar bone playing in a tournament in Bulgaria. Having phoned Sports Cover Direct their overseas provider advised me there was a private health facility I could attend in the city I was in, which they suggested to attend instead of the local A&E facility. However there was a complete lack of urgency. They eventually issued me a single day ticket for this facility after an hour after it had closed for the day. The next day I had to call back and request another access ticket which took time to come through. When I finally got to the facility I was advised they had no appointments for another 11 days. I phoned back the provided who then told me to go to A&E (now 48 hours after the injury). Having paid out of my own pocket for the x-ray and diagnosis, I was informed I had a fracture dislocation and would need an operation. The insurance company offered repatriation. However again this was terribly handled. I had only use of one arm, so carrying luggage was very challenging. I was informed that I would need a certificate to prove I was safe to fly, but the information came too late. The company had no urgency at all and were very particular around who I had to get this note from, which delayed the process further. Finally once it came through, having assured me there would be room on the flight, they then told me it was now fully booked. By this point I was at the airport and speaking to the flight team who said there were 60-70 seats still available on the flight, despite the insurance team telling me it was not possible to get on the flight. I had to make a snap decision to pay the full price for the return flight, so I could fly with the necessary baggage support from my teammates. Again there was no clear contingency plan or any sense of urgency from the insurance provider. I had to pay a lot of money out myself, which the company says they will reimburse but it will take a month. I have launched a formal complaint but heard nothing and been told it will take up to 8 weeks. I have had no personal contact from anyone at the company since - only an automated email so say my complaint has been registered. Had I not taken out insurance I would have a) had a diagnosis much quicker b) spent much less money Unfortunately a really appalling service, where on numerous occasions I was promised someone would contact me within the hour and they never did. Everyone was polite but ultimately incompetent and so far have not taken any responsibility for the situation. I am also significantly out of pocket. From my experience unfortunately I have to strongly advise looking for alternate insurance providers for sports insurance abroad.

Took 9 months to process my claim and then rejected it despite clear grounds and providing all receipts due to 'flight cancellation not being covered', which is ridiculous. If my flight being cancelled and losing money I spent on all of my pre-paid activities isn't covered by a policy I don't see much point in it!

I would give zero stars if I could. Similarly to other reviewers, the travel insurance seems fine until you actually need it. I've spent 9 hours waiting for an insurance guarantee that I was told would take 30 minutes. They don't provide any contact information for local agents, meaning it is only possible to speak with the claims operator through expensive international calls (not even a possibility on a lot of SIMs). They outsource claims handling to Healix International who have also failed to provide any useful service and have completely stopped replying to any of my emails. Being insured by Sports Cover Direct is a risk to your health.

Looking for insurance to cover a short trip to Spain for a football tournament, this was an addon to our existing insurance. The process was simple and relatively cheap for peace of mind.

I had the sense to call and check, but if you followed the website for sports travel insurance, with the correct sport, you would purchase and then not be covered. The lady on the phone explained they don't insure for Ultra X events. No explanation available. Perhaps state that on the website ?, ask for the event name on the website ? They just didn't want the business, but cannot explain why. As I said, you could be in trouble as they pick and choose, but don't tell you that. POOR, POOR, POOR.

This only relates to actually taking out the policy, not making a claim. Very helpful advice on the phone from Callum to help me make up my mind which type of policy best suited my needs and give me peace of mind, if in the unfortunate event that I ever need to make a claim.

Brilliant experience. Very knowledgeable team who can create a bespoke policy. They set up a family policy with different cover for each member. 4 stars due to increase in price.

Well, we have returned again to SportsCover Direct because the process is [almost!] pain and hassle free, simple to arrange and the cover provided - should we ever require it - as SCUBA divers as well appears excellent. A nice, tho' possibly unintentional touch, is that arranging cover for SCUBA requires a telephone conversation, so an opportunity to ask questions, not quite face-to-face but better than sometimes ambiguous forms. Highly recommended!
