Nice sports centre had a mini comic con arranged by local shop trader 16th November

Another typical day at 5 Rivers - entry door to gym opens without the need for a pass (on and off for at least 1.5 years); can’t lock locker; sauna doesn’t work (hasn’t been the right temperature for several weeks); enforced cold showers (nearly 2 weeks); broken shower (a few weeks but was out of action for over 8 months. It was fixed but broke again quickly); broken equipment. The most expensive gym in the area and the worst maintained. Members are not getting what they pay for. 08/11/2025 08:00 - You can just walk into the gym off the street now as they have given up trying to fix the entry system on the gym door (1980s tech) so it’s always open. The sauna is so hit and miss that I barely consider it now. It works now apparently, but the person in charge couldn’t be bothered to turn it on, deciding that sitting on reception and staring into space was a better use of their time.

Profit above all else! It’s disappointing how much 5 Rivers has changed. It used to offer good value, but now it seems profit has taken priority over customers. Swimming sessions are limited to 1 hour 15 minutes which is too short given the cost for a family of four (2 adults, 2 children). Previously, you could use both the Teaching and Beach pools during a session, but now you must book one or the other, with no option to switch mid way should your children want to swap. The lifeguard suggested booking both pools at the same time to move between them, doubling the cost for the same amount of time. What a stupid suggestion. The number of customers disputing this change (both poolside and at reception) should make it clear that this system isn’t working. The online booking process is also floored, it took 3 attempts for payment to go through, despite using the same card each time.

Facilities-wise, the updated gym and sauna is fantastic, making it a good place to workout. I’ve been using the student discount for the holidays which has been super useful and the £1 lockers and showers are great if I need to go directly to work afterwards. Ultimately will never be as well-equipped as Puregym however, and can get pretty busy inside due to the size of the gym. Better for me as it is on the closer side of Salisbury and there are bike routes all around it. Have heard lots about the workers here not being good and would like to clarify that on the whole they’ve been great, but all it takes is a bad interaction to ruin a visit. If you find yourself being told you can’t do or buy something or other either speak to someone else or come back on a different day. Additionally, they use a very dated online/offline system for bookings and payments so that’s something else to be aware of.

A great council facility that has a fantastic range of gym equipment after it's refurbishment although sadly not digitally linked to your individual workout on your membership card. I lack confidence in the trainer's on the gym floor when it comes to their ability to tailor training to an individuals needs. There are good pools, sports courts and a good range of classes. The Wood Bar coffee shop is very good and has a nice seating area and work space. My huge criticism of the main facility however is cleanliness, particularly in the large public seating area. It really is disgustingly filthy! The fabric seats, sofas and footstools are so dirty, as are the plastic chairs. The whole area is in need of a deep clean and regular maintenance.

It’s a good leisure centre. What I absolutely hate is the fact that the lockers literally cost you 20p each time you open the locker - you don’t get your 20p back! The pools for babies are a bit cold, definitely need to wear more than just a happy nappy. But after having a shower and getting dressed it’s lovely and warm, but when went with my 7 month old he was too cold to stay more than 30min which is a shame as he absolutely loves swimming. It would be a great idea if there could be a separate pool with at least 32°C water for the little ones.

I joined 5 River's leisure centre on 06/12/22. A big part of my desire to join the gym was to use the sauna and steam room. At the time of my joining, the steam room was out of order and I was assured by a member of staff it would be fixed and closure of the sauna was never mentioned. One month later on 05/12/2022, I was notified that the sauna and steam room were being closed indefinitely. This frustrated me as I was not made aware of this development during the joining process and feel I was mis-sold a membership as these facilities were key to my joining. Furthermore, the timing of the announcement prevented me from cancelling my direct debit which I believe was quite underhand. I cancelled my membership ASAP and did not use the facilities after 05/12/2022. I asked for a refund and this was declined. During this discussion, their own member of staff did not refute that they were hiding behind T&Cs. The motivation of the closure of the steam room was to reduce costs. I was charged a £25 admin fee to set up a direct debit for a gym I was a member of for only 1 month and £45.95 for a month of a membership that I did not want.

Never just turn up to this place! ALWAYS call before coming. Seriously not reliable. I’ve taken my 1 year old to go swimming here, 3 times in a row the pool has been closed?!?! We drove a 25 mile round trip just to get here and back - such a waste of time and fuel. Staff aren’t particularly nice. Changing rooms could do with more of a clean and they have permanently closed the cafe. They offer vending machines but 9/10 they aren’t working either!!!!!

It's great to have a leisure centre in Salisbury and this one is fine, the staff I've spoken to are friendly and helpful, but my recent story here is as follows: I'm a type 1 diabetic and I needed to buy a biscuit and a sugary drink , the cafe was closed and the vending machines didn't accept my card or phone contactless payment.. I'm sure I could have asked the lovely staff for something but I didn't want to kick up a fuss, self sufficiency is important to me. So I walked all the way to Waitrose and back again.. a little bit annoyed that there's no place to to buy food.

It’s Saturday morning, you, like me are in need of your early morning exercise fix. What do you do? Pop over to the luxurious public baths at Five Rivers Leisure Centre. For nearly 6 of your British pounds you can use the cleansing waters of the 25m pool in the company of fine Salisbury-an folks. Remember to bring 20p with you for the lockers.
