Food was absolute rubbish. All red because of red food colour used in cooking, in taste it is worst. Not as indian food. Will not order again. I won't recommend anyone to order from here. Photos and menus are deceiving.
We ordered tandoori chicken and kebab with naan. Food came with lot of colour, naan quality was very bad. Food was no where close to India, apparently it is run by cooks who r non Indians which is no issue but then why say Indian takeaway or cook in a way which is Indian? I mean something is a mismatch. Really disappointed by the quality of food. Sorry.
For many years this has been IMO the best Asian takeaway in Portsmouth. Went back to them this evening after at least 1 year gap, and they excelled again. Simply the best flavours bar none. Their take away food is better than you will experience in virtually all sit in places. That is saying something with excellent Asian eateries that are in Portsmouth, but Anwa'rs have earned that in my opinion.
Never fails to deliver!!! My new go to take out for delivery. Great food at a great price. Always arrives hot and delicious.
Edit: As of 2019, it's still a 3. Haven't eaten there since as a result. It's a basic requirement to have decent food safety, even before the quality of the cooking. Great food, easily my favorite indian. Excellent selection of dishes with different tasting varieties. Served hot, and with good attention to their hygiene rating which is currently a 5!
Im actually shocked at how bad the food is, ordered buttered chicken got a made up version, meat smelt like feet, breed under cooked , only thing nice mint sauce ...straight in bin
1st time ordering from Anwars and been meaning to for a while but what a shame, dont like to leave bad reviews but.. Chicken Phall was a mediocre Vindaloo at best, the fact they want £3 extra on top of an already pricy Phall to make it an extra hot Phall baffles me, a Phall should be a Phall, the hottest on the menu! the meat and dish was very tasty but it lacked the main ingredients, heat! And with The King Prawn Biryani, the prawns were unfortunately very well over cooked, again a tasty dish but having to push most of the prawns to one side doesn't leave a good impression, Sorry Anwars I wish it was different but I feel this is a fair review on our experience.
Always good food. Friendly delivery driver. Most curry places go downhill after a while. Hope this place doesn't.
I have been using the same Indian takeaway in northend for 7 years (taj mahal) and have tried many others but nothing competed, however for the first time this evening we got our Indian from here and I can honestly say it’s the best Iv ever tasted and I will never go anywhere else again. Thankyou for a lovely meal
