Whilst waiting outside for a taxi home, we were suddenly instructed by the landlady to leave the pavement outside so we didn't disturb the neighbours...despite the pub making excessive noise (music/shouting etc.) whilst we were only talking quietly (note the pub has no legal right to remove us from these grounds either). After our taxi failed to turn up, we decided to go into the pub and order a drink, during which we were abruptly told to leave. We stayed outside to wait for a taxi again, and the landlady once again falsely accused us of making too much noise, and when we disputed this with her, she resorted to verbally abusing my friend. Genuinely astounded at how we were treated as young people by this pub. We definitely won't be coming back and recommend you don't either. Rude, nasty, and hypocritical.

Lovely traditional pub in picturesque Castle Road. Fantastic cask ales, consistently recognised year on year by CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, and a good range of lagers, bottles and snacks. Fantastic farm fresh eggs on offer at great prices, many of which we’ve gotten double yolks out of! Can be quiet off-peak, but you can always have a chat with the friendly staff, or enjoy the peace with a good book. There’s a lovely garden, if you’re lucky you might be visited by the little cat who can be quite a diva! The pub hosts a range of live music and a quiz, and is a hit with the older locals. Hidden gem through and through!

The Barley Mow is the quintessential wonderful local pub. Absolutely no pretensions, absolutely perfect!

Cracking 2 bar pub, with one containodarts, pool and on this occasion a healthy number of Morris dancers singing a mix of folk songs and Sea Shanties. Great beer selection, and ciders too. All well priced, as is the food.

Unspoilt backstreet pub, far removed from your sports bars and chains, this has character, a piano, local farm eggs for sale, two bars cosy and friendly and many decent ales...HSB, 49er, London Pride all served well. Today Pride from the cask and decent. Recommended pub.

I haven't been here in years so was surprised that the landlady was an old guiding colleague. Place hasn't changed much and the smoking area is beautifully done.

Old school community pub no TV screens bar billiards, warm cosy, plenty of real ales like HSB and Proper London Pride, no fizz here. Well kept too. Two bars and garden. Definitely one to seek out. Lovely friendly service, local banter and dogs welcome.
