“Having tried a new cafe at the other end of the High Street and found it wanting, we walked to the top of the street and found this lovely, welcoming cafe. Service fun and welcoming, coffee excellent and good prices all round. Would recommend this place and will definitely be back.”
“We love Bar Aroma; just knowing we’ll be there lifts our spirits, whether it’s for our morning coffee or a breakfast of excellent proportions and flavour. Everything is delicious with an Italian flair: the coffee, the quality of the desserts, the seasoning of the food, and you can even find Italian products if that’s your thing. What we enjoy most is the good energy from the staff—they make us feel welcome and at home. They’re the kind of team that motivates you to come back; they remember your name, what you like and what you don’t. It’s clear they do everything with love and passion, and that’s always appreciated when receiving good service. They’re pet-friendly, organise activities with local artists, and you can also book them for important events like Christmas dinner. There are lovely details all around the place, and there are extra services that are much appreciated, like a place to hang your coat and self-service water. The atmosphere is visually pleasing, with photos and touches of Italy. They sell alcohol too :) after all, it’s a bar, hehe. We’re so happy to have places like this in Portsmouth.”
“What great little pub/cafe. We had a great time. Thank you”
“Really enjoyable first visit to Katie's. This place was packed from opening on a Sunday morning so I would recommend trying to book! The menu is music themed which was a nice touch and quite different from anything else I've been to in the Portsmouth area. The food is good quality, it's not a greasy spoon by any means! Everything comes in good portions and tastes great.”
“Huis in Southsea is an absolute gem. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and friendly with a really nice atmosphere. The kroketten were the perfect starter (one of each, crayfish, cheese and ham hock and cheese) along side the stoofrites with 3 beer beef carbonade. Chips in gravy on a whole other level! It took a lot of self-contol to not pick up the bowl and drink the gravy once the chips were gone! The bloody mary moules et frites were simply outstanding, perfectly cooked mussels in tomato sauce with vodka, celery, tabasco and sun-dried tomatoes. The croque monsieur was the best my friend had ever eaten and she cleared the plate despite the very generous portion. I was a bit ambitous ordering the waffel dessert but glad I did just to see it in all its glory. Add in a fantastic selection of beers , and you’ve got the perfect spot for a meal. Can’t fault a single thing. Can’t wait to go back. Top tip, make sure you book!”
“A very friendly locals Pub good cocktails old pub atmosphere good stop”
“A really nice, friendly Mediterranean restaurant offering really good food and excellent service. I called in here en route to Southampton for my daughter's birthday primarily because of the good reviews here on Google. I can honestly say that the reviews are accurate. The whitebait, calamari and prawns we perfectly cooked and my steak was as expertly cooked as any I've ever had outside of London. The service was excellent and our host, Bethany, made us and most importantly my daughter feel very welcome on her birthday. We'll certainly return if we're ever in the area again!”
“A lovely place for reasonably priced breakfasts. Very nice too. Definitely coming back. Coffee was really good too. Sausages are huge as from local butchers and bacon is lovely. You have to try the bubble n squeek. Highly recommended. Lovely owner Gary is. Very friendly. Licenced place too. Best breakfast on the island by a long shot.”
“Absolutely fantastic food, service and atmosphere. All our party enjoyed their food, ranging from succulent steaks and juicy burgers. Des in the kitchen is fabulous. The chocolate cake is beyond delicious. We will be back soon.”
“Absolutely top notch cafe/bar. If you ever visit Lee-on-the-Solent you must visit here. It gets a little busy so best to book a table. Brunch is a real treat. Dog friendly. Nice friendly staff with great customer service.”
“Great place for breakfast and watching the sunset.”
“Absolutely lovely breakfast at The View! Wonderful atmosphere and everyone so welcoming! Definitely recommend this hidden gem! We look forward to coming back in the summer when we visit again!”
“I popped in on the off chance that they may have a table on a Sunday afternoon - and was lucky! The staff were welcoming and accommodating to my gluten intolerance. The food was great! Overall, a nice atmosphere/environment to be in - I would definitely recommend a visit.”
“An iconic place in Cowes that serves up a wide selection of dishes that cater for all dietary needs. The accompanying cocktails and wines are superb and the service is attentive and courteous. A definite gem on the Isle of Wight and bookings are essential at the usual peak times as place is popular with both locals and tourists alike. I would definitely return. Management deserves praise for providing such an outstanding eatery and it would be great if one of their marketing team engaged more with the Google reviewers to further boost their ratings and awards.”

“One of the best pubs in Pompeii, regularly four or five ales always in good condition. And a large beer garden. Beer festival Sunday 29 June 2025, it was brilliant. Roll on next year.”

“Getting to be a regular here and love the welcome family atmosphere. Staff seem happy knowledgeable and keen to make your visit the best it can be. Food is always that cut above alternative eating establishments and worth the wait as this place fills up to the brim and you must book a few days ahead. Do say if something is not quite right. I reluctantly mentioned a minor detail and was made to feel welcome the issue more than resolved and no fuss. Thanks guys. They deserve a medal for the sterling effort to keep going all through covid and now as we start to feel safe out again. Food great as usual. Thanks.”
“Another great evening on Saturday 29th November at our lovely award winning local Italian restaurant. Helpful, professional staff and perfect service from the friendly, knowledgable team with a superb menu to match at an ideal location just minutes away. Thank you all for a most enjoyable evening in seasonal surroundings.”
“Was skeptical before entering, BUT what a super place! The braised beef short ribs were sublime and the katsu curry vegan croquettes very tasty. The staff were so helpful and pleasant and even the Elvis entertainer was good( against all expectations- so well done to him too!!) we will definitely be going back, stayed a lot longer than we had planned and would recommend giving it a try!”
“Amazing little country pub with incredibly good food.”
“Lovely pub & restaurant, Sunday Roasts are heavenly and a good size, I had the beef. We had a table booked for 1pm and there was no mention of roasts being sold out like I had seen another review mention. Desserts are a little on the pricier side for the portion size in my opinion, and could do with a couple more options to choose from, but other than this I can’t fault my visit. Will definitely return!”
“Just had a group's Christmas dinner and it was amazing! Large portion of beautifully cooked food. Service was brilliant, staff were polite and courteous”
“Lovely friendly helpful staff serving delicious food. Clean nicely decorated restaurant, seating available inside and out with umbrellas available in the heat. Not much of a wait for food.”
“Good atmosphere and friendly bar service from Julia”
“Charlie was really good to us at bottomless brunch on the 29/11/25. He was helpful, supportive and even though he was rushing around everywhere he made sure to pay attention to our table and look after us. Thank you Charlie”
“Myself and my girlfriend have seen the alchemist a few times when we have come to Gunwharf and tonight decided to give it a try, Safe to say we were not disappointed both of our drinks came out bubbling and smoking which only added to great atmosphere, I had the Katsu curry which was very tasty and would fully recommend for any coming here. Our night was topped off by the welcoming and overall immersive service given to us by our waiter Oren.”
“a few of us went for a themed evening. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Great ambiance with the low cellings and reasonably priced drinks. The only thing against it, was not enough glasses! I am not sure if the glass washer broke down /too busy to wash up/or not enough in 1st place. Other than that a great venue.”
“We were out and fancied a Sunday roast so we popped into the Cormorant. The server was polite and found us a table quite quickly. The service was prompt and the food was good. All in all a positive experience.”
