We stayed in room 227 the night of 13th December. The room was excessively warm, and we were unable to sleep throughout the night. We opened the window for ventilation, but it only opened slightly and did not help cool the room. We then tried using the fan provided; however, it was very loud and made sleeping difficult. At around 1:00 a.m., several people were standing in the car park talking. Because the window was open, the noise was clearly audible and continued until approximately 3:00 a.m., further disrupting our sleep. The shower pressure was very weak. Dinner food and drinks were average. On the night of our stay, I approached the spa reception to ask about appointment availability for the following day. The staff member sighed and responded bluntly with “no,” which felt unprofessional. Then she continued to look straight at the screen and ignored me. The only positives were the beautiful Christmas décor, the restaurant staff and the large car park.

I have stayed at this hotel numerous times over the years, however after my 2 most recent interactions it is safe to say I won’t return. The hotel has gone downhill sharply since being taken over, the whole experience no longer feels luxurious and rather like an attempt to squeeze as many people in as possible. From check in to check out the whole experience felt impersonal, hurried and downright rude. We waited over an hour to check in past the normal time because we had paid for a sea view room. During which time we attempted to order a drink at the bar, waited 15 minutes to order and then after 30 minutes our drink still hadn’t arrived. At this point the relaxing stay was off to a bad start. Then in attempting to go up to the room the main elevator of the hotel was exclusively being used for ferrying dirty linens. The hallway to the room was littered with dirty linens, room service trays, and rubbish. Despite this being 5 hours after the check out time. Cleanliness of the rooms leaves something to be desired and I would argue falls below the standard expected of a luxury hotel. With shoe marks on the bathroom floor and shower and noticeable dust and debris on the carpets. More what someone would expect from a low budget all inclusive than the slieeve donnard. The TV in the room wasn’t working as they have chosen to use a third party casting app. The spa was crowded with limited amenities for the number of guests. ie 8 loungers in the entire spa. Additionally the spa area was littered with used towels and robes as no one was regularly going in to clean. Dinner in the Percy French was 7/10. Decent pub food with helpful staff. However we were lucky to get in early as on leaving the kitchen and waitstaff were loudly swearing and arguing in front of guests. Breakfast can only be described as chaotic and reminiscent of a childhood game of sardines. A far cry from the breakfast room of old under the Hastings hotel ownership. Frankly having been a loyal patron of this establishment for a number of years including, weddings, birthdays and family dinners we will not be staying here again. The hotel has taken a sharp turn downhill under its new ownership.

My partner and I had the loveliest stay celebrating our recent engagement. We both thoroughly appreciated the small touches in the room such as the personalised note and cupcakes. Our dining experience in the Percy French was excellent with delicious food and very attentive staff. We spent the morning before check out in the spa and it really was a highlight of our Christmas break. We cannot thank the team enough and will certainly be back

Attended a wedding here and stayed over. Staff were very polite, quietly efficient and helpful. Food was very good and the rooms were clean, characterful and the bed was very comfortable. The atmosphere was one of calm relaxing and elegant definitely recommend a stay.

Beautiful location and estate, very friendly staff amd service. Food was good. My only complaint is that there was loud music we could hear from our room until midnight which we were not warned about. A quiet beach getaway requires peaceful stay, other than tjat it was a good getaway. i recommend Percy French Irish Coffee

Hotel is beautiful. Staff in Chaplains bar were not very friendly. Prices are exceptionally high. 2 herbal teas and 1 Black tea cost over £14. Nice place though. Lovely location. Bit up itself tbh.

Lovely place to stay, excellent service. Currently having a much needed refurbishment which will hopefully benefit this long standing hotel. Sadly dining quality is still not great. Food whilst good is not that of a top hotel and in some instances poor. Hope new owners can fix this soon.

Upgraded to a nice studio, although some of the furniture a bit worn/stained (perhaps by pets who are apparently welcome in rooms!). Staff throughout the hotel couldn't have been more helpful. Lovely dinner in Oak Restaurant, & 1 of the tastiest hotel breakfasts there we've had for ages. Awesome views of sea & mountains from restaurants & hotel pool & jacuzzi. However, despite all this, we left disappointed as we were refused entry to the pool on the last afternoon of our stay, because we had already checked out of hotel!

Lost one star due to the dated bedrooms but the spa and gym are so fabulous that it’s easy to forget the less appealing rooms. Food is lovely and the walks around the grounds really are food for the soul. It’s easy to forget that you’re in the heart of bustling Newcastle. It’s definitely worth a visit. A great treat for couples and families alike.

Colin Service ★★★★★
A very solid 4 star hotel with outstanding facilities. Compliments must go to Joanne at the front desk and Ben at the restaurant for their incredible professionalism and dedication to service. We really enjoyed time relaxing in the 25 meter swimming pool, sauna and steam room overlooking the Newcastle promenade. The rooms were extremely comfortable and well laid out with everything needed for a relaxing stay. Breakfast buffet was extremely wholesome with hearty food to ensure a perfect start to the day. WiFi was functional, massage services were very well carried out and dinner was truly delicious. Check out was simple and uncomplicated. Thanks to the hard working staff throughout an entire hotel water issue which was dealt with very professionally, efficiently and effectively.
