We visited Butterfly World in the last decade of November 2025. As the temperature outside wasn’t high, we debated whether to leave our warm jackets in the car, expecting tropical warmth and humidity inside. However, it was quite cold, and we were able to spot only five butterflies, plus one dead one on the path. The snakes were obviously cold and appeared to be hiding in their enclosures. The gecko did not look happy, and the snake enclosures seemed too small. We couldn’t spot any tarantulas. If we assume this wasn’t the right season, it would have been helpful for the venue to state that clearly. It puzzled me that I saw reviews with beautiful photos of a variety of butterflies, including from visits in late autumn, like ours. That makes me think that there used to be various species and plenty of butterflies but not anymore. Therefore I don't think it is worth the entrance money. Sorry about that!

This was a lovely place to visit. It is set in a garden centre which I thought had a huge variety of gifts and homewares. The butterfly world was good value for what I experienced. It was about £12 and I wandered around the butterfly enclosure slowly watching many butterflies fluttering by! Twice a day they have activities and I was fortunate enough to get involved. I think it was 11am where we all gathered for the beast handling of tiny critters. We were allowed to hold the snakes, leopard gecko and even a baby tarantula! Later we could feed the koi fish in the Japanese garden. Was a very nice place and learnt a lot about wildlife. Highly recommend especially good for children.

If you’re coming to Isle of Wight for a holiday do not miss this place! It’s such a great experience to see beautiful butterflies upclose. You can even hold some of their critters. Ryan one of the employees of this establishment was really great! He was funny and kept us engaged in the knowledge of the critters and butterflies. He was really great in showing people how to hold the animals and where to look for them in the garden. Don’t miss out on a great little time out.

We had a brilliant day out here and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone holidaying in the Isle of Wight! We would encourage all to go to the various talks going on during the day as the staff are so informative and friendly. We chatted with Scott and Ryan during our visit and both were so passionate and well informed about the animals there. We were able to hold several creatures too (A scorpion, hermit crab, leopard gecko and a tortoise) and feed the Koi carp in the very unique way of a baby bottle on a stick! We also enjoyed a walk around the garden centre and the cafe does a good jacket potato! All in all a great day out :)

Great fun for the family. Can get busy at the mini beast and koi feeding times but the staff are really helpful. Ticket allows you another return in a week so great value. My only concern is the toilet facilities. If this could be addressed I would have given the site 5 stars. Nonetheless a fun day out for butterfly lovers.

If you find yourself having to choose between attractions, then this is definitely a must. The butterflies are plentiful and beautiful. You can spend as much time as you like in amongst them and you entry ticket gives you a return visit free within the following 7 days. There are also mini beasts - we held Millipedes and a Tarantula - before moving on to see the Koi Carp. The staff were very knowledgeable and offered information, they didn't need to be asked. It was a truly wonderful few hours, I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

What an amazing place, and very good for the pocket. Its a small place but what they have done to it is amazing, especially the butterfly area. I would recommend waiting for the tour Scott was very knowledgeable and happy to talk to all ages. If using a sat satnav it take you to a residential entrance just drive up a tad further. Also fold your wing mirrors in if parking near the bush at the very rear of parking area, a bird keeps attacking his reflection and poos all over mirror.
