   This service falls seriously short in terms of reaction to acute mental health patients. They were totally unaware and unprepared for the gravity of the situation. Blank faces. Questions of a most basic nature addressed to an acutely ill mentally ill patient who was unable to respond because he was in the last stages of mental deterioration. I had been offered an urgent appointment with a psychiatrist which I was led to believe would lead to a hospital admission . Nothing could have been further than the truth. We were totally mislead which left my son acutely distressed. As his mother I repeatedly asked for medical intervention but was offered home therapy. My son was in serious need of a medical detox but the reluctance to offer this caused me and my son serious distress. I was ignored over and over again which distressed my son to the point he wanted to leave. The doctor kept pushing for home based treatment. WHY IN SUCH AN OBVIOUSLY SERIOUS SITUATION would home based treatment be remotely helpful. In fact it would have be wholly dangerous considering the notes that should have been read prior to the consultation. They would have revealed serious self harm and a result of the absence of appropriate treatment. We are now 3 weeks into an escalating mental health crises but as far as the team we met yesterday were concerned my son was treated like a new patient. No notes had been read which were extremely relevant to the meeting. We were shocked by the inane questions asked. My son was like a new patient and not the extremely ill patient he was. I have zero confidence in this teams ability to react to an acute situation. We were left in the waiting room whilst a bed was found but was told an hour later that the crises coordinator was unavailable. We were finally out of our misery and went home. The home therapy offered was 2 x 2mg of Valium. That beggars belief. There were repeatedly told my son had strong medication at home so why was he offered this most meagre dose of medication. None of this experience makes any sense whatsoever. The whole experience is something my son and would never ever want to repeat. Just appalling.
