“My new favorite breakfast spot! The staff here are absolutely amazing, so warm, welcoming, and kind. As someone who’s shy and Muslim, it means a lot to feel genuinely comfortable in a new place. They go out of their way to make sure I’m looked after, and they even adjust the food to fit my needs without me having to ask twice. It honestly feels like home. What touched me the most? They remembered my last order. That small gesture made me feel seen and appreciated. Highly recommend!”

“Such an amazing place for breakfast/brunch! My absolute favourite spot, and not just for the great food, but also the cozy atmosphere (also dog friendly!), and the brilliant service! Especially David always greets everyone with a big smile and so much care, making guests feel welcome and wanting to come back time and time again! “I had the wonderful opportunity to visit federal market over the weekend with my sister. There was a small line but we were welcomed with hot chocolate and a wonderful greeting which made it feel like a much shorter wait. As we sat, I was greeting kindly by our waiter as we roughly scanned through the menu with only one thing in mind, French Toast. As the french toast arrived, I was astonished and amazed at the presentation. A nice strawberry syrup almost circling the french toast. Taking my first bite, the soft and pillow-like toast mixed with the not so overly sweet whipped cream and strawberry jam that really worked with well together with the acidity of the fresh fruit cutting through the richness. Every bite was consistent with that same taste as the first bite which I believe is crucial in any dish. The place was vibrant and welcoming with a nice atmosphere. Music even playing at the perfect volume where you can speak to the people with you and still enjoy it. 100% my new favorite spot here in Manchester. Recommend everyone to try the french toast.”

“Stayed over in Manchester & found this little gem for breakfast/brunch. Ordered a large & small breakfast with tea & coffee included. Freshly cooked, although we were the only ones in, phone orders were coming in. Nice friendly lady cooking & serving. Worth a visit. Plenty of road side parking”

Large screen showing the news channel so you can catch up on what's going on around the world while eating. Or you can view the River Orwell on one side & watch the cruise boats passing by.”

“Fantastic lunch here. The food was to die for and the freshly squeezed orange juice was gorgeous. The mozzarella focaccia was so flavourful and the strawberry and vanilla sundae was absolutely next level. Our server, Esin was so lovely and attentive and even surprised me with a piece of passion fruit cheesecake (which tasted incredible) as I’m halfway through my pregnancy and was out shopping with my mum. Will definitely be returning!”

“Went in with the Mrs for some scran. She had french toast I had the full breakfast. Both tasted amazing. Presentation of the food was nice. The hot drinks were amazingly good. Credit to the coffee machine they use- definitely high quality. The shop is all tones of grey and blush and looks top. They have this smart looking glass salon section where my mrs went for lazer hair removal before food. Fun concept for the ladies or men who like aesthetics. Definitely go again.”

“Came here yesterday with a friend and ordered 2 hot drinks and breakfasts. The drinks and food came quickly. Food was hot and fresh. Big shout out to Lesley and Lewis were great front of house they were friendly and nothing was too much trouble we asked for a little extra milk for the tea and this was done without any problem. There was a lovely atmosphere great to see a happy environment and great teamwork”

“I can only echo what has already been said: this is a very nice cafe that deserves to do well. + Excellent coffee from local coffee roaster (Blossom). Lovingly prepared: thoughtful and attention to detail Very friendly and welcoming staff Good choice of cakes The food menu is limited but clever for a very small venue. Brunch and breakfast options. It's also very reasonably priced. No real negatives to report: a couple of minor things could have been better on our food (e.g. toasting/warming the bagel before adding the ingredients), but they're very minor. We will definitely come back and I'll get a bacon sandwich on the way to work soon.”

“The Black Friar has been amazing to work with for our friendship group's annual Christmas lunch. They made the entire booking process extremely easy, with all the T&Cs clearly outlined from the start. On the day we were looked after by Jess, who was incredible, very quick to respond to any issues raised, never kept anyone waiting, so accommodating with our various quirks (like pictures), and was easy to reach when needed without making it seem like hovering. And always with a smile, of course. Truly, truly a standout member of the team deserving of all the praise. The food at the Black Friar was also divine, incredibly generous portions (that I admit, have bested me) and every bite was a pleasure for all the senses. Our whole group was very happy with the afternoon we got to spend there and we will definitely be looking into coming back for next year's annual Christmas lunch, a total gem of a pub.”
