I was quite excited to visit Roku, albeit it wasn't exactly up to my expectations. Sushi is good, you can tell there is effort made in sourcing quality fish and ingredients, and majority of them tasted good. Menu is concise in the best way possible and the specials are unique and interesting. Like other reviews state service is really rushed, I appreciate that there are bookings ahead or it may be busy after our slot but this was well before the end of our dining slot. Service is polite otherwise and was helpful with any queries. It's good sushi for sheffield, but for me nothing to write home about. I wonder if their hot dishes are the ones that shine but unfortunately I did not try when I visited.

This is a modest looking place in a former industrial sector of north Sheffield known as the Kelham Arcade, adjacent to Peddler Market. It has a good reputation so I drove almost an hour to try it out. The restaurant is based around an open chef station surrounded by a counter/bar with 8 seats and there are also four tables. I was surprised to see that both the chefs on duty when I visited were westerners, but they nevertheless seemed very proficient at rolling sushi. I ordered the sashimi selection but I was told this was only available when the Japanese head chef is present. I respect the rigorous approach this policy represents and will hope to be able to order it on my next visit. I was sorry to see both chefs wearing gloves - you never see this in sushi restaurants in Japan and it's been shown time and again to be inferior to regular handwashing in terms of food hygiene. I ordered the selection of tempura (prawns and vegetables) which was absolutely excellent. Perfectly cooked, beautifully presented along with finely grated daikon and ginger as well as flaked salt and a bowl of excellent tentsuyu. 100%! I also had the sushi selection consisting of salmon maki and assorted nigiri. They were beautifully made and the fish was outstanding. The sake list is decent with two junmai daiginjos, two junmais and a honjozo. Two sparkling options too. This is an excellent restaurant if you are a true lover of Japanese food. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food is clearly made with love and enthusiasm. I had a great evening. I can't recommend it highly enough and will definitely be going again.

I wasn't ready for the flavour explosion (from the very first mouthful) that Roku's chef delivered! What an unforgettable experience. I didn't want the meal to end. I would recommend ordering different plates for the table and sharing - in order to experience the delectable sensations. I will definitely visit again.

Its alway a surprise of what you would be served in this little gem of Sheffield. Unparalleled in the quality of sushi, it is obvious that the chefs in this restaurant works hard to ensure their dishes were prepared carefully and correctly in accordance to the ingredients. There is no doubt I shall be visiting Roku in Sheffield again soon.

Warm welcome and very polite. Cool decor with a chilled out vibe. Chef Tom is attentive and takes pride in his art. Food was great with a nice twist. Good price point as the portions are larger than normal.Definitely recommend. My wife and I enjoyed date night and left feeling very satisfied. Will be back with friends. Big thumbs up to Tom and his partner.

Wonderful intimate setting with such fresh seafood. The chef was lovely enough to make us a custom order of the Japanese scallop as it was so delicious we just had to get more! Great to know that the restaurant is from the same owners of Edo sushi, which we have been long time fans of, but now we get to explore more variety of seasonal fish as well. Will be coming again for sure!

We went to Peak District and browsed for Japanese afterward. We came here randomly from Google search with such a highly rate. It turns out with good quality food, staff are so friendly. Chef is from Kyoto, and most sashimi are imported from Japan. Fresh and juicy. Will defo come back next time :)

Top quality food! Amazing staff and absolutely fresh as it can be! No.1 out of all sushi places in Sheffield. Highly recommended, but make sure you book a table in advance. Worth every penny! There’s also vegan available on the menu and that was delicious too!!
