Absolute dive, use to be a good fish bar… popped in new owners. Didn’t like the look of the dry scabby meat they had on the kebab spits so had pie and chips. Big mistake pie was clearly out of date, I had two bites before realising it didn’t taste right and threw it, the chips taste like last years oil and have had the worst stomach over night from that delicious sour hard pie that’s clearly been sat there for over a day. Never again

Dropped into Famaris Fish Bar on a rainy Friday evening in Birmingham's bustling Digbeth area – it's one of those no-frills spots that's been serving up classic chippy fare for years, tucked away on the edge of the city centre. The cod and chips (£8.50) was solid if unspectacular: the batter was crispy enough, and the fish flaked nicely without being overcooked, but it lacked that extra hit of seasoning you'd get at a top-tier spot like The Balti Triangle's hidden gems. Chips were chunky and hot, though a bit on the soggy side from the steam in the paper wrapping – standard for takeaways, but could've drained better. Sides like mushy peas (£1.50) were fine, straightforward and portioned generously. Service was quick and friendly from the two lads behind the counter, who handled the queue without fuss. Place was clean enough for a fish bar, with a couple of high stools if you're eating in, but it's mostly geared for grab-and-go. Not the best in Brum (that honour goes to places like Simpsons for upscale, or the markets for fresh), but for a reliable, affordable bite after a day out, it hits the spot without breaking the bank. Worth a punt if you're nearby, but don't cross town for it.

I went to buy some chicken and chips, and the atmosphere was tense from the moment I walked in. The customer service was absolutely terrible — rude attitude and zero respect for customers. The place seriously needs to improve how they treat people.

A year ago I gave this place 5 stars for everything, but it seems under new management once again so I can no longer recommend it. The once golden crispy fish, with large beautiful flakes have been replaced by a flat insipid yellow fish 30% shorter and soggy. Even the chips are no longer crispy, they’re a pale soggy yellow too. It all tastes as bad as it looks too. Even the warm friendly service has gone, where you were once greeted by a tall lovely man with impecable manners, genuine warmth and gratitude for your custom -it has been replaced with people who can barely muster a smile and make you feel you should be grateful to them! This place has gone from being one of the best chippys in Brum to one of the worst.

Heard the place had changed hands, stopped for pie and chips wished I hadn't. The chips were cold and rubbery and the pie microwaved within an inch of its life! Safe to say I wont be returning.

Chicken Balti Pie and Chips an eye popping £6.90. Disgusting!! Pie microwaved to concrete. Chips all scraps and bland tasting. Avoid Avoid Avoid.

This Fish & Chip shop has around for years and every time I've been it's never dipped in quality, food is always superb and staff are polite and friendly. They serve a decent mixed kebab as well as fish, thoroughly recommended stopping off here for a bite to eat! Fanaris keep it up guys!!

The chips were pretty good, and the service was polite and friendly but honestly they are overpriced and need a lesson in the art of making a good "donner burger:" Toast your buns (just slightly), slice your tomatoes (not wedges)

Can only assume other reviews have never been to another chippy. Could name 10 within 2 miles better off the top of my head easy. Chicken meat looked days old swimming in grease, donor meat like rubber or plastic, chips overdone, portion sizes would make jesus blush for the price. Wouldnt feed it my dog would be worried his gut would disintegrate.

Great chip's. Kebab meat is not consistent as sometimes the miserable old bloke who runs it will cut the meat so two thirds of the strip of meat is uncooked. This seems to be a money making tip which a lot of chip shops seem to be doing. Lunch time the staff seem to be polite but of an evening they are very miserable. Worth going to for the chips, they're probably the best in brum.
