Mixed experience, great Sunday roast but disappointing and overpriced desserts This was my first visit to the restaurant, and at the start I genuinely thought I’d found a new favourite. The décor is lovely, and I ordered the Sunday Feast for One, which was really nice. The meat was tender, the Yorkshire puddings were big, and the gravy tied everything together beautifully. The only downside on the plate was the stuffing, it was quite rubbery, so I wouldn’t order it as an extra dish. Unfortunately, things went downhill when it came to dessert. I chose the four-layer fudge cake (£7.95), which is definitely on the pricier end but I was impressed with the meal so I thought it'd be worth it too . What I got didn’t resemble a fudge cake at all, it tasted like a basic cheap supermarket chocolate cake served almost cold and the slice was tiny. It just tasted sweet and the flavour that was there was really unpleasant. It was really unejoyable. My friend had the sticky toffee pudding (£7.50), and his portion was small too and he didn't rate his or mine either Service started off attentive, but once we got dessert it was like we vanished. No one checked in, so I just pushed through the cake even though each bite annoyed me more. When the plates were finally collected, I shared our feedback, but the response I got was, “No one has ever complained before.” I’m not sure why that was the go to response as it was invalidating and dismissive. It made me feel like my experience didn’t matter. I would have come back for the Sunday dinner because it really was lovely but after that response, I’m hesitant. Overall, it's worth going for the Sunday dinner but save your money and skip the desserts.

Really excellent. We had the large Sunday roast which comes with 4 meats and all the trimmings. Fantastic food & amazing cauliflower cheese! I had to take half home with me. Still had room for my chocolate sundae. Great staff & a good buzz.

Had such a great evening there. The food was delicious, we loved the options (not too many but quite varied, so great for people with different taste). Would absolutely recommend, will come back!

Never been here before, normally venture into wakefield. We went for a meal elsewhere and decided to enter here for a quick drink, what a surprise. Glad we popped in, stayed a little longer than expected and will be back for food. Great service, fantastic atmosphere.

We’ve eaten at Bistro 42 several times now and can honestly say that we’ve always been really happy with the food and service. The meals, especially the Sunday roast, have always been delicious - the mash potatoes alone are amazing! The service by Abi and her colleagues is always prompt, friendly and professional. The choice of drinks is good and even includes gluten free lager which very few bars and restaurants supply. This is a small but significant addition for a gluten intolerant customer who loves a beer! Bistro 42 is also one of the few places that make Margarita’s - the manager Jamie makes one of the best classic Margaritas I’ve ever had. We love visiting this place and highly recommend it.
