Place was generally nice but prices are to high for the products they using to make food. Plate content was very overpriced. Generally good was tasty and service good as well but I left this place with aftertaste of being ripped off.

Food is excellent, had the steak, cooked to perfection, very nice place, just needs more people to realise it's there, would definitely recommend.

After a great first visit in November, I returned to La Cantina in February 2025 for another business lunch – this time with a different group of colleagues. One of my business partners ordered the Chicken Saffron, which looked and smelled fantastic, while I decided to try something new… and epic. I went for The Beast – a massive steak, also called Tomahawk by the chef (who I suspect might be Spanish – which would make sense, given how truly Mediterranean the kitchen feels). Whether it was 32oz or 42oz, I’m not sure – but the size and presentation were unforgettable. Served on the bone, grilled medium-well, juicy, rich in flavour… easily one of the most impressive steaks I’ve ever had. As a starter, I ordered the King Prawns Alla Cantina – partly because my business partner from the first visit couldn’t stop talking about them. And yes, he was right – they were juicy, full of flavour and served hot, just the way they should be. I finished (barely!) with the chocolate fudge cake, which once again delivered that warm, rich, gooey texture I loved the first time – plus smooth vanilla ice cream and generous chocolate sauce. Incredible. I’ll absolutely return to explore more of the menu – because everything I’ve tried so far has been fantastic. And if you’re reading this: drop a comment if you’ve tried The Beast yourself – for me it was a serious challenge. One thing I know for sure now: no more starters before that steak! :))

How to start , maybe from beginning . Back in November 2024, I was searching for a place in Widnes with genuinely good reviews – somewhere quiet, where I could enjoy proper, freshly prepared food, not reheated dishes like in many so-called “restaurants.” That’s how I came across La Cantina on TripAdvisor – and I’m glad I did. I went there for a business lunch and the setting was just right – relaxed, professional, and comfortable. I ordered the Surf & Turf steak (medium-well), which was absolutely spot-on. My business partner chose the King Prawns Alla Cantina, and another ordered the Sea Bass – both were impressed with the taste and freshness. For dessert, we tried both the cheesecake and the chocolate fudge cake. The cheesecake wasn’t really to my taste – but the fudge cake completely made up for it. Rich, warm, with real chocolate sauce and fresh ice cream – it was the highlight of the meal. This first visit convinced me that La Cantina is a hidden gem in Widnes. And yes – I did come back… to be continued

La Cantina in Widnes offers a delightful culinary experience, with its inviting ambiance and delectable menu. The restaurant's charming decor creates a warm atmosphere, complemented by attentive staff members who contribute to a welcoming environment. Carlos, the owner, is the heart and soul of La Cantina, bringing a personal touch to the dining experience. His passion for authentic flavors and dedication to customer satisfaction are evident in every aspect of the restaurant. Carlos goes above and beyond to ensure guests feel like valued patrons, adding a personalized touch that sets La Cantina apart. The menu boasts a diverse selection of dishes, showcasing the richness of traditional flavors with a modern twist. From savory tapas to mouthwatering main courses, each dish reflects a commitment to quality ingredients and culinary expertise. The wine selection is well-curated, enhancing the overall dining experience. While La Cantina's prices reflect the quality of the dining experience, the value for money is undeniable. Whether you're seeking a romantic dinner or a gathering with friends, La Cantina promises an exceptional gastronomic journey. In Widnes, Carlos has created more than a restaurant; he has crafted a culinary haven where passion and flavour converge. Be sure to also check the daily specials board on the rear wall, my personal favourite is the Tomahawk steak (see pictures). Great value.

We had a lovely evening here celebrating my sister's retirement. The food was freshly made and delicious, and the service was very good. It was a Tuesday evening so there weren't many people in, but we've been here before when it was busy, and the atmosphere was great. My sister also got given a bottle of wine to take home to celebrate her retirement with. If you take advantage of the early bird menu it will cost you next to nothing too. Definitely worth a visit.

Found ourselves in Widnes in need of evening meal. A quick trawl through Google came up with La Cantina. What a brilliant find! Such friendly and welcoming staff - really made us feel at home. The food was top class, well presented and delicious. An excellent meal for 2, with drinks, for a little over £50 - what's not to like? Look forward to our next visit!

An absolute joy of a place. Lovely staff and the food was fantastic - the meat cookery in particular was really well judged. I don't normally like desserts but my tiramisu was superb and made me grin like an idiot.
