Impromptu dinner date with my Sister. As we didn’t have a reservation, we had the uber drop us by Temple Street and around pigeon park-as we knew around that location has various restaurants to choose from. We had a look at a couple of other nearby restaurants menus in the window but nothing quite caught our eye, until we looked at San Carlos…we were spoilt for choice! Looking inside it looked rather busy so we didn’t get our hopes up that there would be a table available but thought it was worth a try. The host was lovely and quickly said that she’d show us to a table for 2 up the stairs. We were seated in the middle of a row of two seaters tables. These are quite close together but it didn’t bother us as no one was either side, but I can imagine on a busy weekend it may be as if you’re sitting with strangers. Our dishes were cooked to perfection and there was nothing left- as someone with an allergy I didn’t feel like I was limited with menu choice, and chose tagliatelle bolognese. We also shared garlic bread with cheese which was so good! To the point my sister left a slice because she said she was too full and then couldn’t leave it and ate it! I’ve already said we’ll go back next time we’re in Birmingham!

I had a delicious meal on Friday. We were seated quickly and the food didn't take too long. All my seafood was fresh and tasty I just wish I more than one scallop. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Would definitely come again.

We arrived and had to wait a little while for our table, along with quite a few others, so the entrance area felt a bit crowded. The espresso martini had a great coffee flavour but lacked the usual punch you’d expect from a classic martini. The oysters were fabulous—nice and big, just how we like them! The pizza, unfortunately, was a bit underwhelming. It was light on toppings, which made it lack flavor. We also tried the seafood grill main, which really could’ve used some salt, garlic, and chili to bring it to life. That said, the restaurant itself is beautiful—great atmosphere and setting.

Have dined many times at San Carlo over the years living in Birmingham. Food is always good. Wine list caters to all budgets. And they have great seafood dishes. There are two levels to the restaurant and we were sat at a table tucked away which was great. Lots of mirrors with a ceiling full of artificial roses. It’s over the top but suits the venue and adds to the experience. Great wine. Lots of Italian choices. We had a couple bottles of the primitivo after a round of negronis (pleased an Italian place can make these well too) My starter was overdone under the grill. I’ve had the baked aubergine parmagiano many times and this unfortunately wasn’t their best. Monkfish tagliatelle and the shared dessert more than made up for it. The dessert was three mini portions per person and a limoncello shot for £9 each. Great value. Will look forward to my next visit.

The ambience of San Carlo is fab - we went for lunch for my moms birthday so it was suitable for the whole fam. There is a lot of choice with the menu so you’re sure to find something that suits you if you have any dietary restrictions - wasn’t overly impressed with dessert but loved my main

Not much I can really add on here that hasn't already been covered in previous positive reviews. Great venue (those photos on the hall of fame are spectacular!), great service, a HUGE menu with amazing food. This is a restaurant you must visit if you ever visit Birmingham.

Very bad experience here. We ordered two expensive main. The lamb chops were charred and bitter, and four of them were very small, stale and chewy. After discussion with the waiter to change a new one, it is a pity that the second time there is no change. The sauce is not good either, without any character or surprise. I can tell you, I can make it better at home. It really makes me extremely disappointed with this restaurant, which is out of proportion to its appearance and price. Lobster pasta is just so-so. At least it doesn't taste bitter. The pasta sauce is flat and bland, the lobster is half, and the lobster and pasta are separate, without any connection. No lobster. This is a five-pound plate of unsavory pasta. I can't believe this is their specialty. It sucks. The service was also poor. The waiters didn't ask how we ate or offer to refill our water. One young man, when I asked if it was normal to have a slice of fried lemon inside the fried calamari, said impatiently that it was. A store that really let me down. All in all, I won't come back again or recommend it to any of my friends. It is clearly a good atmosphere of high-end chain resrestaurants, did not expect such a level. So sad for them

Enjoyed a birthday lunch here, mid week. Didn’t book but was welcomed in, plenty of tables available. Service was great and food was excellent! X

I can't argue the service, decor and the food, but I can't also justify 5 stars. Nothing special about service, food or even decor. Not the wow you might want, but certainly not a total disappointment. Perhaps our standards are just too high, but then again I've been to better. As a stand alone Italian everything we ordered from seabass to scallops were tasty. Perhaps maybe a little too over priced and so you just expect something to jump off your plate at the prices you pay.
