   A couple of weeks ago we had a Christmas meal with 15 of us. We had pre ordered our meals and the booking process was good. However the waiter during our meal seemed clueless, one meal was missed off despite pre-ordering and when it came to paying our bill we found that half of the items on our receipt we hadn’t ordered and they had accidentally mixed our order with another tables. Had we not checked our receipt we would have grossly overpaid. Overall food was nice but poor service let it down.

   1st visit. If you are parking make sure you log your car details near the bar on the iPad. Staff were friendly. I thought the food quantity was less. With the veg lasagne there was only a side salad. Think portion size is less. Another meal was the steak. Again for was paid, it could have been better. Also had a pudding. One with ice cream, other with custard. The apple pie was cold. Custard was warm but not hot. Ice cream 1 small scoop. Feel there was a let down. There was no check back to ask if all was ok.

   We've been to the Gate several times since we moved to the area over a year ago. The staff is always very friendly and helpful, and the food is delicious. The volume of music is always low, so you can hear what people in your group are saying. This is definitely a plus! It's a good size pub as well, with plenty of seats. Would definitely recommend!

   Awful food. Lunchtime menu is cheap for a reason. Empty barrel of beer to start with. I had the fish and chips. The fish was brown in colour and had the texture of being under cooked. The apple crumble was obviously microwaved and was just a stodgy sickly sweet gloop. The only good point was the ice-cream. Won't be eating there again.

   Great pub with a welcoming log fire, friendly staff and an excellent chef. I had the Hunter's Chicken which was beautifully cooked and served with peas, onion rings, chips, a large mushroom and tomato. The staff member checked that everything was satisfactory with my food and even brought me additional barbecue sauce. I couldn't wish for better service or food!

   Not a bad place. We had the ultimate burger and steak & Guinness pie. Chips and onion rings were on point, the burger was decent and well done which I appreciate. Pie was the best. Prices were reasonable and huge menu of pub classics. Felt like it wasn't so easy to get a well rounded meal. Plus Free parking with lots of spots, just remember to register your plate at the bar!

   The Gate is a really good place to visit. We had dinner they on a Saturday night. We had booked in advance, so a table has been reserved for us. The menu is really good, with a really good variety to choose from, including a separate vegan/vegetarian menu. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the menu gives really good variety for money, including the drinks menu. We started with the vegetarian chili nachos which were delicious and made a really nice change from the traditional meat version. We will definitely go back again.

   We were in the area and we looked for place to eat. this was our first choice and we weren't disappointed. Fish and chips was good and tasty! Great interior to sit next fireplace at cold autumn evening. Staff were polite and it's good to see smile on their faces. Good job! Strongly recommend!
