We usually have Sunday roast at The Grapes but they were fully booked so we decided to try The Wellington. The food was tasty enough, and so we were a little baffled as to why there were very few tables occupied. The reason for this became apparent, the service. As we sat down and began to eat and chat over lunch, one of the staff brought out a hand-held hoover and began to hoover food from the floor at the table next to ours, so our conversation ended as we couldn't hear each other. I definitely don't want to hear hoovering when I go out to pay for my Sunday lunch. At no point did the staff member approach us to apologise in advance or after for the interruption, and why on earth could they not use a dust pan and brush? After we finished our main course our plates sat on top of each other at the end of the table for over 15 minutes. I thought this was odd as there were no other occupied tables around us and 3 members of staff were standing nearby talking. Suddenly, right in the middle of our conversation a different staff member yelled as she approached us "Have ya finished then?" 1. It was obvious we had finished as both plates were empty on top of each other at the end of the table. 2. Polite customer service dictates an approach with "Excuse me, let me take these plates for you. Are you ready for you dessert? We had pre-paid at the bar for the 2-course main and dessert, but we waited over 25 minutes and eventually had to ask a third member of staff for our dessert. "Oh, I'll go and find out for ya" - no apology. Then another staff member came over, also barging into our conversation "I've asked in the kitchen for ya, so it should be out soon" - again no apology. At this point I wanted to ask for a refund for my dessert as I wanted to leave but my dinning partner wanted to stay for their dessert. The waiting-on staff at The Wellington need training in customer service and common courtesy. Needless to say, we both agreed that we would not be retuning, and we suspect this has been the experience of past diners as the number of empty tables were testiment to this. Such a shame as the food is tasty and pub is lovely, but the staff made me feel extremely uncomfortable.

Great pub. Decent food. Good selection of beers. Very friendly staff. Especially Lilly behind the bar. I watched her help an elderly woman struggling to walk up the outside steps, sat the lady down then an hour or so later she walked the lady out of the pub, down the steps into her car. Refreshing to watch a young Lady with excellent customer care.

Went on a Sunday. I had the carvery which was better than the last Toby carvery I had (this is not a Toby) There was plenty of choice of veg and three different meats. Staff are friendly. The pub was a bit chilly but it was early on.

Lovely food at reasonable prices. We ordered the chicken & mushroom and steak & ale pies and butchers gammon. All meals were tasty but a chicken or veg based gravy with the chicken pie would have been better than the meat gravy. Staff were friendly. We will be going again.

Booked a table for 4pm and when we arrived there was nobody eating so we ordered with trepidation in case the lack of diners was a bad sign. How wrong we were! The quality of the food was excellent and it was all prepared to a good standard. With a little attention to detail in terms of presentation, the wellie would really be a place to rave about. The presentation did not in any way detract from how nice the meals were I might add. Portion size was good and the wait wasn't long at all. For the price, the value for money is very good. We will definitely go back. The two ladies who looked after us were very friendly, helpful and attentive and scored extra service points for asking was everything OK with our food 5 Mins after we started to eat. This is vital to ensure a great customer experience and not enough waiting staff do this,so hats off girls you did a great job. The beers we had were nice and fresh and crisp which means good cellar practices and the shandy was well proportioned. Desserts were lovely although the sauces had bled a little bit in the heat. Heating the brownie for the top of the sundae is a lovely touch as well. All in all, a great meal in a nice clean friendly place at a decent price. Highly recommended. Well done the wellie!

This pub is accessible from the front entrance but the rear entrance and outdoor seating area is not accessible. The atmosphere was friendly with helpful staff and the prices are reasonable. The Sunday roast including 3 meats (beef, ham and turkey) for £8.95 was a good price but although the meats were excellent, the vegetables were lacking taste and not hot enough. I will be back to try other meals on the menu, which hopefully will be hotter. Had a good pint of Landlord. Cheers.
