My friend and I ate here this evening. It was our first visit. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Our food was delicious. We had olives and garlic bread which were perfect. My friend had ravioli with Gorgonzola and walnuts and other scrummy things. I had cauliflower steak with golden raisins, walnuts, pomegranate, broccoli and a beautiful dressing. It was visually stunning too. The staff were so attentive. The decor and lighting level was spot on. It was such an impressive first visit. Thank you.

Held my 60th Birthday Party here. Nick and the team were absolutely superb. Atmosphere was excellent, food superb, staff incredibly attentive and friendly (and decent dancers as well!). They made sure I and my guests were always looked after and always had a full glass of wine! I highly recommend this location

We discovered this lovely restaurant tonight while staying at Chessington World of Adventures, and it was such a wonderful find! Every course we ordered was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavour, truly exceptional quality. The staff were so friendly and welcoming, and they were fantastic with the children too. Thank you for such a delightful dining experience - we’ll definitely be back!

My wife, daughter, and I ate here while visiting Chessington World Adventures. The food was fantastic, the ambience was lovely, and the staff were patient and very welcoming. The staff welcomed us and gave enough time between each course and couldn't be more helpful. The food was as good as a meal in Italy! We ordered both the bruschetta and caprese salad between my wife and l, and the tastes were well-balanced and only bettered by the fresh pumpkin ravioli and pizza. If we visit the area in the future, we will certainly be going back!

After a long, rewarding hike at Box Hill, we were seriously craving some comforting carbs—something warm, local, and Italian. Averna in Claygate hit the spot. It’s cosy, welcoming, and serves food full of heart and flavour. Starter: Garlic Bread Packed with garlic flavour and beautifully crispy. If you have any leftovers (unlikely, but possible), save them. It makes a perfect dipper for the leftover lemon beurre blanc from the sea bass or even the oil from the carbonara. Game-changer. Grilled Octopus Hard to describe… in a good way. It’s surprisingly balanced, featuring beans, olives, tomato, and chorizo, without any one element overpowering the others. The pepper isn’t spicy, just aromatic. A really well-rounded and thoughtful dish. Main: Seared Fillet of Sea Bass Cooked perfectly with crispy skin and tender flesh. The veg and potatoes underneath soak up all that delicious fish oil, adding an extra layer of flavour. The lemon beurre balance sauce is bright and buttery, and if you dip your leftover garlic bread in it… You’re winning. Spaghetto alla Carbonara Just yes. Creamy, salty, perfectly seasoned. Simple, classic, and comforting, exactly what you want after a hike. Dessert: Traditional Tiramisu This is on par with the one I had near Seven Sisters, an accurate benchmark for me. Freshly made to order, light, and rich without being heavy. I don’t think I can enjoy another tiramisu in London unless it’s made fresh like this. Spoiled now. Averna is a local gem that delivers classic Italian food done really well. Whether you're stopping by after exploring nature or want a reliably delicious meal, this spot deserves a visit. Warm vibes, solid flavours, and portions that leave you happy.

This is a lovely local Italian. Really great, fun staff, and despite a few reviews saying to the contrary in our circle it’s known as being a great place to come with kids too. I feel interiors could do with warming up a little to help create a more intimate, warm ambience. A gripe with friends or family we’ve come with does appear to be a lack of decent pasta options (as you might expect for an Italian) for veggies. So this is something they may look to re- consider. As who honestly likes a mushroom risotto?! No body we know!

First time here in a long time. 4 people, 3 courses each, 2 rounds of drinks just over £200. All dishes were great quality and the service was swift and staff polite. Good spacing between tables, good atmosphere. Will be back here again soon.

Lovely restaurant, good food and attentive staff. Took my 3-year old for a birthday dinner with the family. Staff made real effort to make her feel special and really got involved to sing her happy birthday and dance as well - turned it into a real celebration that we will always remember. Thank you!
