Today I had the pleasure of receiving a back massage and facial from Charlotte, and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Charlotte is incredibly kind and professional, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere from the moment I walked in. Her attention to detail made me feel truly special. During the treatment, she fostered an environment of privacy and respect, which allowed me to relax completely. The massage and facial were both exceptional—Charlotte clearly understands how to provide not just a service, but a truly caring experience. I left feeling rejuvenated and deeply appreciated. Thank you, Charlotte, for your outstanding care and expertise! Dot

The Hotel was good overall. The communal areas were nicely decorated. The room was fairly clean but very dated, especially the bathroom. There was freeview tv available which was good for the children. It was nice to have still and sparkling water taps spread throughout the corridors. Breakfast was delicious. Customer service was great. Staff were friendly and responsive.

The swimming pool area looks a bit neglected. There was black mould on the walls, which didn’t give me much confidence about swimming in the pool. However, the sauna and steam room were very good. The massage was good and the facial was excellent. The staff were welcoming and made us feel comfortable throughout our visit. Unfortunately, the afternoon tea was very disappointing. We had to leave the spa in our robes and walk through to the hotel’s main reception and then into the conservatory, which spoiled the experience. The afternoon tea could easily have been brought over to the seating area near the café within the spa, which would have made much more sense. The sandwiches were poor value for money and lacked any style or presentation. On a positive note, the scone was warm, fresh, and enjoyable.

Had a lovely time at the hotel and the staff are so lovely and friendly, especially the breakfast staff that were there this morning. I visited the spa during my stay and had a back massage from therapist Michelle and it was absolutely incredible. The best massage I have ever had! I think her hands must be magic and she was absolutely lovely as well. I was so relaxed afterwards. It would be worth coming back just to have that massage again. Will definitely stay again…it’s a charming place.

I wasn’t sure what to expect before visiting Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel & Spa after reading some mixed reviews, but from the moment we arrived, I was genuinely blown away. Abbie greeted us at the front desk with a beaming smile. We arrived early and our room wasn’t quite ready, but she went above and beyond. She gave us a quick tour of the hotel and made sure we were comfortable by the pool while we waited. That small gesture set the tone for the rest of our stay. Many reviews mention the décor, but I actually found it quite charming. It might not be the most modern, but it’s spotless, well maintained and feels homely. The spa facilities were excellent too, especially for the price. The food was exceptional. Every meal, from breakfast to dinner, was faultless and genuinely some of the tastiest food I’ve ever had at a hotel. A huge thank you job to Abbie, who made our stay so memorable, and also to Elizabeth and Izzy for their warm service throughout. An amazing place. We’ll definitely be returning and can’t wait to try another Macdonald spa soon.

We have just enjoyed a lovely long weekend break including having treatments at the Spa. All the staff in the hotel and spa were lovely, extremely welcoming and couldn't do enough to make sure we had a lovely stay. The rooms were great and so was the breakfast. We will definitely be coming back soon. Thank you

Had the best time for my 50th birthday 2 Spa treatments and 1 night stay over, with use of pool at any time. Evening meal was delicious and filling. Drinks a little expensive Cooked Breakfast wasn't much good very dry. Staff where very friendly and helpful. But overall had an amazing time. Would recommend it to family and friends.

My Wife and I booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary over the weekend. We arrived and checked into our room which we were not happy with in the slightest for the price paid, however, we went down to the reception and let them know our concerns with the room. Within 5 minutes we had been given another room which was absolutely stunning, we couldn’t have asked for anything more. The staff went above and beyond, always greeted with a smile and they were so helpful. The only downside for us was the price of drinks at the bar!

Great setting and location. Room was really tired. Chair covering was ripped, paintwork chipped. Bed was comfy. Cleanish not spotless. Shower was impossible to get a reasonably temperature. Desk staff were friendly and reasonably efficient so no issue there. We didn't use the spa which I think is the main attraction... its convenient for us to visit family and has been like this for years now.

Location and grounds of the hotel are lovely. Rooms are satisfactory and clean but could do with updating. Families be aware that the pool has limited times that children can use it, a couple of hours in the morning and 3-6pm on an evening and even then the pool is reduced to half to allow an adult only section - very disappointing and can not see this advertised anywhere. Restaurant, drink prices and service however severely lets this place down. Disinterested staff, with the exception of some lads on the breakfast duties. We waited over one hour on our first evening and had no apologies even when we had to ask where our food was. Food was very disappointing for the price - very basic. Only 3 of our plates where cleared and no-one came back to ask if we wanted desserts. Lots of empty tables with dirty plates. Breakfast was not much better with limited choice on cold table, no milk or croissants and the chef refusing to put any more in despite half an hour of service being left. We paid for a deal with room and meals included but refused to eat there the second night and went to the amazing Pesto restaurant just down the road. We chose this hotel for the location but more for the pool as the kids were excited to use it, but had we known the time restrictions coupled with the poor food/service, we would have chosen the Premier Inn just down the road.
