Barshu is one of London’s long-standing Chinese restaurants, and their Sichuan food is genuinely authentic. The ingredients are fresh, and the cooking techniques and flavors are excellent. This time we tried the boiled sea bass with sizzling oil— it was fantastic — and the grilled sea bass we had on a previous visit was great as well. The mapo tofu was another highlight; it goes perfectly with rice, and mixing it into the rice is just irresistible. My friends were really happy with the meal, and we’ll definitely be back.

I visited Barshu recently and was really impressed by their new November specials. Every dish had that authentic Sichuan flavor I’ve been craving! The Braised Pork Knuckle was the highlight — perfectly crispy on the outside and incredibly tender inside. The Pickled Cabbage & Pork Tripe Grilled Fish was another standout: tangy, flavorful, and so comforting on a cold day. I also loved the Spicy Lotus Root, super crunchy and addictive, and the Mushroom Braised Tofu, which was warm, fragrant, and soothing.

This was all from my dinner last night, and overall it was such a great experience. Winnie’s service is always wonderful. I really appreciate her, and it’s always a joy to see her. The lady at the bar who made my mocktail was also super warm and welcoming. The drink itself was delicious and looked beautiful too. The noodles were amazing. I recommend giving them a quick stir while they’re still hot so the sauce at the bottom mixes evenly. The assorted dumplings were great as well, the chicken and pork ones were especially tasty, while the veggie one was just okay. The spicy hot pot (mala maocai) was pretty spicy but incredibly satisfying. If you love spicy food, you definitely need to try it. And if you prefer something with less broth, you can go for the dry-style mala stir-fry instead. Overall, an awesome dinner.

Their most famous dish is probably the pounded aubergine with sesame sauce / paste. It truly is one of a kind! It is incredibly soft and silky, and the flavour itself is very punchy with a nice sesame, garlic infusion. We also loved the roasted sea bass with pickled mustard greens and pork tripe. The sea bass is deep fried and has a super nice crunchy exterior. The fish itself was very tender, and the ingredients paired well perfectly. The pork tripes were prepared well, so it may be on the chewy end. The dish itself is also generously huge in portion. Overall, a great place for Sichuan cuisine. It is also on the Michelin recommendation list for many years.

Very nice restaurant with an extensive menu. Ordering is easy with the tick sheet. Service is fast and no nonsense. Food is very good and there's lots of things you might never have tried or seen. Some of the flavours were a bit bold for me, but that's up to the person. We paid £150 for 5 people including alcohol.

The fried rice and beans were delicious but the Szechuan chicken was almost inedible. WAY too much peppercorn in the dish itself. I love spicy food, but this is just not the best way to prepare this type of dish. They could’ve used the peppercorns to flavor the oil the chicken and peppers were cooked in instead. Very good service though.

Delicious, authentic, Sichuan food. Plenty of options to suit all palates, good quantities and easy to order with the pictures on the menu. Extremely busy staff with a full house but they took good care of me, making sure I was warm enough and had everything I need.

Been here a few times and it's always amazing. Lots of vegan options and they're clearly labelled too. If you aren't careful you can end up spending quite a lot, but we find that if you get a few dishes to share and some boiled rice, you can keep it to around £25 a head. Obviously the vegan/vegetarian dishes are more affordable. Drinks are expensive but that's the same everywhere in this area. Service is really good and all the staff are very attentive. I like the ordering system too, you get a piece of paper to write everything on instead of having to memorise your order.

One of the oldest Sichuan Restaurant in London, opened at 2006. They have a unique fermented fish dish named 臭鳜鱼(Fermented Mandarin Fish) but it's using grouper instead of mandarin fish, because it's easier to get. So far Barshu is the only place have this dish in London, they only offer 10 fishes per day Monday to Thursday, guess it's for marketing reason, it's a unique selling point to drive customers in low seasons. Most dishes are quite good apart from fried mushrooms. Environment was nice and elegant therefore price is a bit higher than Chinatown.
