I would highly recommend this lovely restaurant! Unfortunately we arrived late and they were going to close the establishment, however the lady at the front kindly sat us down and still serves us incredible food. The atmosphere was 10/10, with the music and design. The food was absolutely incredible and so was the service.
I dont really leave reviews but this restaurant was the worst I've been in for a long time. The waitress was so rude and said its a business not a cafe and we need to spend a minimum of £12.50 per person to even have a seat but the food was DISGUSTING! Everything was deep fried in heavily salted oil.
Had food here with my friends on 3/10/2025. The food is phenomenal & the service is wonderfully friendly, great atmosphere & decor. If you haven't been, you need too.
Lovely find while staying up north. Good was amazing. We just got bsck from Greece so was spot on for a reminder how much we love Greek food.
Absolutely fantastic greek taverna offering something truly unique and authentic in this world of identikit chains and on trend pop ups. A charming and attentive host who is helpful and efficient without being overbearing. We were advised there is no children's menu, since they believe children should eat and experience the same of the rest of us. I fully support that ethos. Food is fresh, served hot, and the flavours are nuanced yet bold. We attended some months ago for my wife's birthday, forgot to review at the time but this is an absolute gem of an eatery tucked away in Horwich, a small town on the outskirts of Bolton, Greater Manchester. If you are in the area it's seriously worth checking out and well priced.
It goes to show how great my time was here, in that I forgot to take as many photos as I would've liked as I was so distracted by how good a time I was having. I have wanted to eat in Sokrates for a long time as my wife has eaten here a few times and couldn't recommend it enough... and now neither can I! I love Greece, I adore it in fact. The notion that I can go to this lovely little restaurant in the heart of Horwich and get my Greek fix whilst I'm trapped in the confines of the North of England is a real blessing. The atmosphere and the ambiance of the place is like being in a real Greek taverna with beautiful blue and white walls, lovely string lights across the ceiling and other touches and trinkets straight out of Greece. They even play authentic music. The service was absolutely lovely. Very polite and smiley and informative. My squad of four was eating the meze, and they explained every dish to us as it was brought out. We even got extras. And then the food itself. The meze was incredible. No over exaggeration here, the calamari was the best I've ever eaten; and the lemon chicken wings right up there with some of the best wings I've ever eaten. And everything else on top of that was absolutely delicious and we were completely full by the time we had finished. Should add that we also finished with a Greek yoghurt cheesecake too which was a nice light way to cleanse the pallet before leaving. Sokrates is not a cheap place, and nor should it be. The food was perfectly fairly priced for what we ate, and we left full and satisfied. I will absolutely be going again in the future and I will be eating the meze again and taking more photos.
Food is great, service was fantastic to start but then kind of stopped. I had never been before but it seemed to get confused after the first few dishes arrived. Not sure if it was just a busy night. Definitely value for money and the food was good
The food is so divine. If I could, I would eat here every day. The Mesay is the most wonderful assortment of flavours, tastes and smells and if I had to choose to never eat anything other that this again I would die forever happy. Words can not express how amazing the food here is. The staff are so welcoming and nothing is to much trouble. Gluten Free options available on almost every dish and this is such a rare treat. They even cater for Gluten Free desserts and not just the standard Ice Cream options. They do the most wonderful Gluten Free Cheesecake on a pistachio base. Which captivates the culinary palette. I really can say this is my all time favourite restaurant ever. Prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are extremely generous. Nothing could make this restaurant any better. A True Greek Feel.
Fabulous real Greek food. Sorry about the photos - was so good I forgot to take them until both mains were half eaten!! Mixed souvlaki with salad and tzatsiki, and kefthedes with orzo pasta in tomato sauce. Both wonderful!
Brilliant restaurant. Been many times. Went to do some research for our daughters high school project. As always was great and the staff even helped us with some extra research despite it being really busy. Top Class.
