I Was bought a lovely cap for Christmas but it was the wrong size. Bryan was incredibly helpful and supportive and aided my decision. I could have purchased so many items while I was there as the stock is lovely and the prices are really keen. I will definitely be going soon with a big bag as there was so much I want.

We were wandering through Chesterfield Market when we met Vanessa, who casually mentioned her shop, **Charles Hedley**, was closed for the day but would be open tomorrow. We hadn’t even planned to go in, but she was so warm and inviting that we came back the next day. Sure enough, Vanessa was there again (still just as lovely), along with Bryan, who was fantastic. He helped us find a **shearling jacket** for me and a **Harris Tweed coat** for her. I’d been eyeing shearling jackets for a while, and it was genuinely reassuring to know we were buying the real thing, not some knockoff, and doing it so close to where this stuff is actually made. The prices felt fair, but honestly the best part was the experience. Every time we wear these, we’ll think of that little moment and that great shop.
Having lived in Chesterfield most of my life, I don’t go into town as often these days, so I was genuinely surprised to come across Charles Hedley in the Market Hall. They are spread across different units – one for suits, one for jackets, accessories and so on – and it was a lot bigger and better than I was expecting. Now in my mid-40s, I wanted to start dressing a bit smarter. I was actually in Chesterfield waiting for some glasses lenses to be swapped out, so I decided to have a wander around and found them by chance. If I remember right, the gentleman there said they have been in the Market Hall since the 80s. The first thing I bought was a leather jacket. I am 6ft 6, so normal jackets and shirts are never long enough. They measured me up properly, we tried a few on to get the right fit and style, and they were able to order one made to my length. It took around four weeks from ordering to collection. Everyone I dealt with was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and from what I can tell it is a family business. There is nothing better than supporting a local family business, especially when they offer this level of service and quality. I would definitely recommend popping into Charles Hedley if you are in Chesterfield and want smart, well-fitting clothing.
Went today with a firm thought in my mind of a tweed suit, colour everything all mentally stored. Bryan the owner armed with tape measure bizarrely took me straight to it and a perfect fit with jacket. 3 piece ordered. Waist and leg measured. Excellent family service. Vanessa his wife took over and we discussed my tie colour of which a perfect match sourced. We then discussed my partners dress match for the wedding I am attending. Their 2 sons working in the background. If you want quality service and suit with trousers tailored to fit that will last come here. If you are after off the shelf cheap polyester won’t last then pop to a retail store.
Productive conversation with Bryan and Vanessa since I bought a coat. Although they didn’t have the correct size on site this has been delivered to me within a week. Very interesting chat absorbing all their sales pitch (!) but a great range of quality clothing available in several adjacent market hall shops. Good to do business.
I wanted to share what excellent customer service i have recieved from Bryan at Charles Hedley. My husband went to buy new wellies - Bryan was very helpful in advising him which were the best and most suitable to buy. I have also recieved excellent service when having to return an item. Very friendly. Very helpful. Would highly recommend and we will both be return customers.
My husband saw a pair of shoes on display that he really liked. Charles ordered the shoes, and we made the payment. Unfortunately, the supplier had delisted that type and sent another type. The shoes that came were good quality but too similar, to a pair my husband already owned. Charles gave a refund and nothing too much trouble. Excellent service as always. We have purchased hats and leather jackets before. Definitely recommend shopping there. All Charles and his wife are very helpful, selling excellent quality goods.
I have been looking for a Tweed jacket and had an idea of the style I wanted, however the cost was way outside my price range as I’m retired. Bryan understood what I was looking for and picked a jacket that I could afford and it fitted perfectly. It may not be a expensive Tweed but it certainly suits me! Thank you and I shall return to get a few more items I need.
