Ad Hoc is hands down one of the best independent wine shops in Manchester β and before anything else, let me be clear: this is not a reflection on the staff, who were flawless. Knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and somehow still smiling through chaos. Weβve been at least six times and the quality and consistency from the team is always spot on. We attended their Sunday tasting, which gave access to 50+ wines. What began as a classy wine tasting quickly mutated into what can only be described as an unsanctioned bottomless brunch. Sadly, the event was commandeered by four unruly middle-aged women and a handful of others who appeared to believe theyβd purchased an all-inclusive wristband. They parked themselves directly in front of the bottles like they were defending territory, refused to move when others tried to taste, delivered theatrical eye rolls when asked politely, and proceeded to down what must have been 3β4 bottles of wine each with the enthusiasm of people training for a marathon they misunderstood. When the event ended at 6pm (which aligns perfectly with Sunday opening hours, by the way), one of the women, who had clearly formed a deep emotional bond with the red wine, loudly complained she still had 20 wines left to taste. After already drinking the equivalent of a small vineyard. Even better? None of them bought a single bottle. Not one. We arrived at 2pm and they already seemed halfway through their βjourney,β meaning theyβd likely been gulping wine for a solid 5β6 hours. For a Β£15 ticket at an independent wine shop, thatβsβ¦ a choice. A wine tasting is not a bottomless brunch. Nor is it an all-inclusive bar. I think future events could benefit from some gentle guardrails, maybe staff serving glasses or limiting refills, purely to stop people treating the place like a hen do with better lighting. Once again, the staff were exceptional and deserve medals for professionalism. I just wish some attendees had brought manners, self-awareness, and maybe a sense of shame.

The selection of wine is fantastic and really like the atmosphere in here. The staff were really attentive even though the place was very busy. They go out of their way to make sure people who have waited the longest get tables when they become available. Also if the bottle of white that you choose isn't in the fridge they will do their best to chill it, turning it in and ice bucket.

Solo trip to Manchester for a concert, wanted a drink but didn't feel comfortable going to a cocktail bar on my own. Found myself very comfortable with the lovely atmosphere and helpful, knowledgeable staff who guided me through their delicious selection of wines. Highly Recommend

Loveliest of places. To work, relax, feel welcomed, learn from experts in one of the most laid back, informed and genuinely passionate and inclusive fun ways possible. Great pouring selection and lovely tables and layout inside and out. You feel totally at home as a solo customer, working or reading and relaxing. Wish Iβd discovered before this year but making up for it now.

Really like it here, amazing selection of wines to buy by the bottle and takeaway, or drink by the glass at a table inside. Lovely atmosphere, great music and my new fave spot for an after-work drink or two.

Amazing selection of wine, cider and beers. The staff know their products inside and out. You can sit in and drink or takeaway. The place has a relaxed and none pretentious atmosphere. It is a great place to get solid advice on what new wines or beer you shoud try next without any pressure. A solid choice for a sunny afternoon drink or a few after work drinks.

Great spot to have a drink in the northern quarter, out on the street or in the minimalist bar. As with anywhere on the same street, it is still a bit expensive (that northern quarter premium) but this shouldnβt deter! Right next door to V Rev so if you ask nicely I bet you can buy beer/wine from them and get food from next door!

Wow! What a great place. Awesome, friendly team with a wealth of knowledge about the beverages they sell as well as their city. We sat in for a drink or 5 and also took some away for later. Great atmosphere with several bars and restaurants in the street and outdoor tables.

Really great new place for quality wines at affordable prices. They also do a lot of craft beers and you can get anything and drink it al fresco outside. Was recommended a really great orange wine from Slovenia!
