Arrived twenty minutes after breakfast so we all ordered off the the light bites menu plus hot drinks. Drinks arrived quite quickly and were gone a long time before any food. The food finally came after one hour and twenty minutes. The cheese and ham sandwich was beyond a joke. I felt sorry for the waitresses who were lovely and were already having a hard time from a very unpleasant manager who spoke to them as though they were nothing. On leaving we raised our issues with the manager who was not interested at all and despite agreeing with our comments on the cheese and ham toasties did not adjust or change a thing pricewise. He barely made contact with us. It was clear that his attitude was other people will come. I certainly won't. If you expect to charge top prices the customer expects top quality food and service.

We went her for lunch on a Monday. There were customers in the restaurant but it didn't seem too busy but we must have waited a good 25 minutes for our lunch!! We ordered a pot of tea which did come quite quickly however by the time the lunch came the tea was gone so we had to order more tea. My husband ordered a brisket of beef open sandwich and I ordered a fish goujons sandwich (the menu said 3 fish goujons but that was debatable). They both came with chips which were very nice. However, the brisket of beef was very very fatty and tepid and the fish sandwich was cold, no warmth in it whatsoever. When the waitress put the plates down she advised not to touch the plates as they were very hot - they were warm to the touch which made us think that our sandwiches had been sitting around for some time. We then ordered an apple and rhubarb crumble and a sticky toffee pudding. I asked for loads of custard but be warned they came with an egg cup amount of custard and we were charged £1.80 for another egg cup amount of custard too. The waitress (I think her name was Elli) was polite and helpful and happy but seemed to be doing all the work even though there was another waitress at front of house. This is the 2nd meal I have had at this restaurant recently (the first being fish and chips, the fish looked like a cheap frozen offering). Would I go here again or recommend it - I don't think so. For the amount we paid it was far from acceptable.

Lovely historic building and atmosphere. Had a delicious brunch with my daughter. Had like a mushroom toastie with really thick cut chips. Generous portion with food coming hot and delicious and didn't have to wait long. Also lovely drinks. Would definately return.

We took some friends here as we had been previously and had an amazing experience and time, so thought we would share with some more friends who travelled from Stoke on Trent. We were all absolutely delighted and the staff team delivered outstanding customer service, we were met and greeted by Leah and Natasha who are lovely ladies and what great senses of humour! Guy, Harry and the Chef Jay and Ahmed took exceptional care of the 6 of us. The menu has an excellent array of choices and we had deep fried onion rings and cheesy garlic bread the best we’ve ever tasted. The Bacon chop, cottage pie and chicken parmigiana were quite simply delicious and excellent value for money and we all tried something different and we all agreed it was worth the journey from Stoke on Trent. One of our group bought some chocolates as we were leaving but they were gone by the time we arrived home! Thanks to Guy and the team who made our visit perfect nothing was too much trouble and they all went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed! We shall definitely be back! An outstanding customer service experience in such an iconic setting we shall definitely return!

No change in 50 years! Still as welcoming and friendly as it was when I used to be bought one of their iconic sugar mice when I was a child. The lady who served us couldn't have been nicer and our pot of special blend Tudor tea was just what we needed. Next time I'm hoping to buy some of the artisan chocolates. They looked amazing.

Went there the other day and had a nice afternoon tea. Staff were very polite and even through I hadn't booked in advance for afternoon tea, they sorted it for me anyway. Inside they have a decent assortment of cakes and other related treats and have three different rooms all reasonably spaced. Overall the atmosphere was nice and cozy and if I was in the area I would visit again.
