We had an afternoon tea there for 7 of us. I was the only vegan in the group and my spread was absolutely phenomenal. Delicious mixture of sandwiches, tarts, salad, scones and cakes with unlimited tea or coffee. The other six all thoroughly enjoyed theirs too. Service was brilliant, we had a truly fabulous afternoon.
I'm not one for writing reviews but I just felt the need to write one here...I've been a couple of times to Gils and the food was outstanding. If you can't decide on what to eat from the menu then I suggest the prawn and crab sandwiches - an absolute MUST have! They were SCRUMPTIOUS!!! The care, attention and thought put into every dish and the superior ingredients just screams quality. I wholeheartedly recommend this beautiful tea room.
This was my first visit to Gil's and I was delighted to discover somewhere so super on my doorstep. I had a Budha bowl which was made with delicious fresh ingredients and I felt healthier just for eating it. Set next to a babbling brook in the quaint village of Wolverley Gil's has a lovely outside dining area as well as a super restaurant inside. Staff are lovely and welcoming and service was excellent. Cannot recommend enough and can't wait to go again!
Recently found this gem. I can’t believe I didn’t know about it until I went on my nieces Facebook as I don’t have FB. The malteser cheesecake and shortbread are amazing. I’ve been looking for cafes with homemade cakes and these truly are homemade, which is such a rarity! The staff also make the latte to preference such as decaf/ oat milk etc the indoor area is clean with tasteful decor. The outside seating is really lovely as it’s based in a pretty and peaceful location. There is a free car park that can be used. Owner is lovely and friendly. We felt very welcome. I was a bit worried as I’ve been to other places which are a bit hostile towards Muslims/ Asians but there was no need to be worried here. I haven’t tried the food yet but when I do I will edit my review . I’d love to see more cheesecake flavours as Gil is a great baker . I am a baker too and I have very high standards so that’s saying something . Im definitely not easily pleased when it comes to cakes. Overall really lovely cafe . I went to another cafe before I discovered Gils for homemade cakes and that was such a major disappointment in quality and taste and did not compare to Gils. Prices are really good for the cake considering it’s homemade and generous portions . Only wish I could visit more often but due to health problems I can’t but when I do it’s a lovely experience. I've visited hundreds of cafes, tea rooms and coffee shops over the years in the UK and around the world, and reviewed many of them. Without doubt this is definitely one of the best. Why? The quality of food and effort put into doing the simple was fantastic. This isn't thrown together food, it's thought about to make the visit here memorable. The menu isn't overly complicated with mountains of options, but instead a great selection of things that will appeal to most customers. The cakes were tasty and the service quick, polite and welcoming. A lovely place to sit eat and be happy. Exceptional! ❤
An absolute gem!! Went after a visit to the Drakelow Tunnels. The food was absolutely beautiful. Well presented, huge portions and really well priced. We booked a table as there were 5 of us and it was ready when we arrived. We were not rushed and the staff were all fantastic. We will definitely go back if we go over that area again. Three of us visited for the Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon. The food was amazing and so plentiful we came away with plenty of cake in a lovely little box. Staff were lovely and Gil himself made us feel welcome and as if nothing was too much trouble. Lovely to see dogs were welcome! A wonderful, definitely to be repeated experience. Wonderful lunch today at Gil's, so accommodating of myself, my mum and my baby daughter. Nothing was too much trouble - polite and friendly staff and food was amazing. The best waffles I've had in years! We'll definitely be back!
