We came for a Sunday lunch as a large group of 15. Food was really tasty, and everything came together and freshly cooked. For the beef you could choose how well done it was which was a nice option. All the trimmings were excellent ans we left feeling stuffed! Will definitely be back.
Firstly the atmosphere and staff were amazing, and so were the homemade chips, which are hard to find these days so would recommend for that alone! The starters of Smoked Haddock Rarebit and Pil Píl Prawns were also really nice. However the main course of Steak and Kidney and Pudding and Southern Fried Chicken were close to amazing but missed. The Pudding had been cooked in the oven, rather than steamed which made it more like a Cobbler than a pudding, you could taste how good the pastry was just had been taken away by baking it. The Southern Fried Chicken was also delicious but would have been perfect if the sauce was on the side as pouring it over soften the once crisp coating and made it soggy. Would definitely visit again and remember to ask for the sauce on the side for the Chicken!
Found this place whilst at the nearby NT Baddesley Clinton and wanting some lunch with the family. The setting sounded nice but the canal. It didn’t fail to I pressure. Very dog friendly too which was nice to see (although we hadn’t got our dogs with us at the time). Met at the door by friendly staff and shown to table. Although the pub was fairly busy they accommodated us fine. The food was was brilliant (off the lighter bites menu) It’s a beautiful setting and felt a nicely run pub. The gardens are lovely too. There are a number of sheds you can sit in to with dog beds. A good find. Reasonably priced too. Classy and casual interior. Suited us all just fine. Well done Tom O’ The Wood.
Family visit for a birthday party. Staff very welcoming and friendly, atmosphere was relaxed. Our food can be described as excellent quality and taste with overall good value for money (except the Gammon dish which looked like someone had eaten half of it en route to our table. (See pics). The gammon and asparagus were very good, but the “roast potatoes“ amounted to four tiny piece’s which made the dish appear something was missing and a little lost on the plate. Strange really, because all the other dishes were very good portion size. The honey pork belly salad was gorgeous as was the pea and pesto pasta. Finally deserts (brownie and bread and butter pudding with homemade custard) were excellent (albeit the homemade custard was lumpy). Portion size on the deserts was huge. Overall a very nice meal. The Tom O The Wood has some serious local competition in the area and whilst matching the prices of establishments such as The Boot, Orange Tree and Punchbowl, I felt it very slightly fell short. Having said this, do not be put off by this very honest review. We had a very good meal overall, but just felt some of the portion sizes were a little off balance. We will return and would recommend a visit if you have not been.
Love this place. Food is really nice , service is on point and they make you and especially your dog very very welcome. Oh and the beer is good!
Excellent venue. With great staff to compliment it. Food was fantastic, Sunday dinner was perfect with beef cooked to perfection. The guest beer was bloody lovely church farm pale ale. Not had a good kip for years like the good old days. Infact i didn't eat again till breakfast & could have easily skipped it. My 1st time here for a father's day family treat & will be coming here more often most definitely. Ps Theo the dog loved his complimentary Sunday lunch which wasn't expected but very welcome. Thanks for a great experience. 10/10
We tried to book Saturday for a Sunday lunch on Father's Day. Not surprisingly they were fully booked. We walked from our boat to the pub for a drink and Charlie, at front of house, welcomed us with the news of a cancellation and the table for 2 was ours. What a welcome, what a place and OMG the food was excellent. The scotch egg starter is gorgeous, the Sunday roast (beef) was delicious (rare of course!) and the sticky toffee pudding, mmmmm! Charlie and Chris (chef) are awesome. Welcoming, professional, hard working and very, very accommodating. Oh, and BTW, totally dog friendly, inside and out. Great place. Book early.
The food was a bit disappointing (actually we wouldn’t go back). The meatballs were better than the sea bass main but the bread was under cooked(lovely sauce however). Overall felt ‘home cooked’ and reheated.
