Would be a 5 star pub for me if they let kids in. Sam smiths owner needs to get with times. Losing some good business because of his 1950s rules. Other than that great pub.
Didn't have any food, just called for a couple of drinks with a work colleague.
One of the most awful experiences myself and my family have ever experienced, walked into the pub to be aggressively greeted by what looked like some form of drug deal gone wrong between locals and who i can only assume is, 'Sam' given the fact they loudly and repeatedly claimed to be the owners and that that 'babies aren't welcome', whilst staring at my seven month old daughter. They then told our group (4 close friends and a 7 month old girl, celebrating new years) that we'd better get ourselves off up the road where tourists to the town are, 'more welcome'. Please, if you're reading this review, don't let these people taint your visit to this otherwise pleasant village. Whats more uncomfortable for us personally, apart from the abrupt and hostile response, was the fact, the entire pub with their pitchforks and unholy attitudes, allowed us to make ourselves comfortable on a table at the rear of the pub, even head to the bar, before confronting us with the fact we wasn't welcome?. Ironically, its worth noting, if you do make it as far as the bar, there was a distinct smell of wet and unkept dog? Also, no phones, internet accessible devices, dogs or anything else is allowed, signs up stating such a fact. Only omitting the fact children and babies aren't allowed either. Do all you can to avoid, head straight for the broken bridge up the road, lovely, family orientated pub, who can't do enough for you. A real silver lining of an otherwise, horrendous experience.
This has to be one of the most brilliant pubs Samuels has to offer(and I live in tadcaster) The atmosphere Is calm like Sam's should be but it is topped off by the landlord and landlady to make it a lot more than just your normal inn. Rest at the inn amazing

Lovely cosy old pub typical of Sam Smith's. Great if you like conversation as no music or TV allowed if only all pubs were like this.
I visited this pub recently, and I loved it. I would suggest though that this place include a health warning for Londoners such as myself who happen to be visiting. When I ordered two pints and the lady behind the bar said "that'll be £4" I nearly fainted. Brilliant! Charming decor, friendly staff, and plenty of very well kept Sam Smiths beers. Will definitely return one day.
