Went to the 'Chemistry' open mic night for poets, and had an excellent night. It was very well attended with excellent headliners and lots of open mic-ers. The atmosphere was very supportive and attentive. It was excellently hosted by Joe Williams, who gives equal encouragement to everyone at every level of poetry open mic experience (I'm not novice, but not experienced, either.) No one who wanted to read was turned away. It was free to take part with a pay-as-you-can-afford jar, with zero pressure to contribute. It ran from 7.45pm to 10pm. The pub is an excellent venue. The event takes place in one room, so the regular pub night carries on elsewhere in the pub. There's loads of outdoors seating as well as three large rooms indoors. It sells great beer at s good price - I didn't try food. There's lots of free parking, though places do run out on very busy nights, so get there early for events. I can't comment on disabled access, though I was told this was very good since a recent refurbishment. Toilets acceptable. The whole place highly recommended.

We were staying in the Airbnb nextdoor, so popped in for a drink when it opened and the vibes were lovely. Staff were really nice and chatty. We got back to our Airbnb and saw it was still open so popped in again before bed, the staff remembered us and asked if we’d had a nice day. Felt really welcomed and was super lively on the evening And there’s a CAT! Would come back to Leeds just for this pub!

Popped in recently on a rainy day for a first visit after seeing recommendations as an excellent pub. Well, it’s okay. Cool that there was a bit of open mic poetry going on in the back room, and it has the usual sticky tables of older pubs, parking was easy, and drinks the usual sort of price, a small range of beers and wine. Their pinot noir was actually pretty decent. It’s a very small pub otherwise - seats maybe twenty to thirty at a push in the main room, a few more in the back, and on a nice day it’s nicer outside, with a bit of a view over the town. I do like the fact that while they don’t serve you food, they do allow you to bring food in. Recommendations were the (gluten-free options) chippy next door, though I can imagine the pub will be reeking as it’s quite cosy inside. It’s old, but no Old Dungeon Ghyll of the Lake District. It really needs a bit of TLC to brighten up a dull interior, though some will like the William Morris style wallpaper. I did find the Naughty Corner quite funny. Lots of unusual board games. I'll leave it at that. Beyond that, it’s not a bad student pub - certainly friendly to them - and certainly fairly quiet. Good for a Sunday morning hangover I reckon.

The Chemic is a quaint, smart little bar with a warm and welcoming feel. Offering board games and a cosy atmosphere, it’s a great spot to relax with friends over a drink. On my visit, I spotted someone setting up speakers in the back, so it seems live music also adds to the charm of this characterful venue.

A lovely hidden gem of a pub. A traditional pub hidden behind a stand of trees. Several small bars with three cask ales the two sampled were in great condition and well served by friendly staff. We visited Friday night which was without its regular music. Friendly locals. Must return.
