My wife and I used to go fairly regularly, prior to the convid lockdowns but, as it went through various changes of ownership, we went elsewhere. Anyway, as it's local, we decided to see if it was as awful as some recent reviews and went today (04/12/2025). We had an excellent experience. The staff were attentive, polite and courteous. The food was also of a high standard and, there was plenty of it. My wife had the scampi, and she had about 20 pieces on her plate! I had the steak and ale pie, and it WAS a 'pie'. Proper pastry top and bottom, not a piece of puff pastry on top of a bowl of meat. It was stuffed with lean, tender steak. Both meals came with triple cooked, hand cut, chips and, again, plenty of them. We both enjoyed our meals and, we'll be going back - a bit more regularly.

Booked a birthday meal for 13 ordered and 1.5 hours the food arrived. This would have been fine if the food was good. The food was shocking burnt, cold and 3 people received the wrong meal. Shocking! Meal all refunded however staff did not seem concerned about this !

Went yesterday, Sunday 19th October for the carvery. Myself, my husband and son. We were initially asked to wait 5 minutes whilst they changed the vegetables as customers were complaining they were cold. We got our food and all immediately commented on an odd smell. The smell was coming from the gravy and as we had covered our food in it, our whole meal was effected. I called a member of staff over to explain the issue to which she replied "I'll inform the chef". We tried to continue but it was not edible so left most of the meal. Another member of staff came to collect the plates and asked if everything was ok so we obviously said no and explained there was something wrong with the gravy. He commented that other customers had also complained and so the gravy had been taken away. We decided to leave instead of calling any management as there were clearly many complaints and issues that although reported were just ignored. Appalling food and even worse service. Would not recommend.

Well! Where do I start with this, tried booking in this morning couldn't get through due to phone line not working. Got there to book in a table told it would be around a half an hour wait, not a problem. Almost 2 hours later we finally get seated, told someone would be with us to take our order, 20 minutes later we decide just to go over to the counter and do it ourselves. We had a member of staff trying to work as well as trying to look after her baby. And you've only got 2 stars because of how polite the poor woman was trying to sort us a table out! In the mean time we bought 2 watered down coors and 4 Rola'Cola's that tasted like they'd been sat in the pump for 6 weeks before being used. Service was hectic, food either running out or not being replaced quick enough, which understable to a point. Chefs looked stressed beyond measure and a lot of us actually felt sorry for them. Down the carvery bit was that full with the que the people sat at the table infront of it couldn't move & left the majority of their food and went home while we was queing, Not a clue what they did to the brocoli but we ended up leaving it due to the brocoli being rock solid & tasted off. Carrots also rock solid, mash was full of lumps. Gravy was burnt and had to be replaced.. not one member of staff come over to us to ask if everything was okay with our food. When we was finished, majority of it also left. Staff came and took the plates and didnt say a word to any of us. 6 of us, £100?! Disgraceful. We will not be coming again. Completely understand if it was just one of those Sunday's. But a sorry would of been nice.

Wow. Great food, lovely staff and nice atmosphere. Came for carvery and it was fab. All four of us had something different. Pie, Sunday roast and vegetarian nut roast all great. Fresh, tasty and good portions. And the home made apple crumble was perfect. Looking for good food and good value? Stop looking and come here !

Visited several times for evening meals and on each occasion never had cause for complaint. Good food and reasonable prices. For first time today my wife and I called in for lunch and had a sandwich each and couple of drinks. Very positive experience and really enjoyed sitting outside in the beer garden. One minor suggestion would be to keep an eye on the discarded rubbish in the garden - first impressions etc! Thanks, will definitely be back

First time i have used this place since covid started. What a pleasant surprise. No need to go to town for a decent restaurant we have got one right here on the doorstep. The food was excellent and the staff were very attentive.
