Unfortunately, the Dalston Matalan is one of the smallest and worst Matalan I’ve ever visited in London. If it doesn’t improve, it will end up like Poundland, which is set to close near the end of November.
i don’t usually leave reviews but this really upset me. i went in today and bought a few things and the worker literally stood right behind me watching me pay, i could see her in the checkout camera. she then really loudly shouted that i needed to come back, embarrassing me in front of everyone. said that i’d left something behind (that i didn’t want) and asked if it was mine and then shouted for me to take my receipt. extremely odd and left me feeling uncomfortable. not sure if she thought i was stealing based on how i look or what? it was the short haired older lady. if she does that next time i go in i will be making a complaint.
I visited on Sunday to browse clothes and spotted some toy cars. As a collector, I had to have a quick peek. I'd like to thank the very kind lady that saw me, and brought some extra stock over for me to look through, as this helped me find a few more for my collection that I didn't possess. Overall, the store seemed well stocked and tidy, with a good range of items and at decent prices. I look forward to visiting in the future.
I had a terrible experience at Dalston Matalan. When I went in for an exchange, Denise, a staff member, was incredibly rude and unhelpful. She scolded me for not having the shirt folded the way they wanted it and refused to process the exchange. When I asked to speak to the manager, Denise claimed the manager would say the same thing, but surprisingly, the manager was helpful and got the exchange done, even though it took 45 minutes due to my lost receipt. Zoe was the saving grace, although I wish she had taken my complaint about Denise more seriously. While the store has good products and is sometimes clean, the attitude of certain staff members like Denise is a major problem. Proper training in customer service and empathy is desperately needed.
This matalan needs massive improvement, The cashier needs to stop socialising with customers as this slows down customers at the waiting line. I'm surprised it's still in business and if you're reading this just drive to Enfield branch for better choice of clothing and remarkable customers service.
Matalan is a great store that sells a variety of goods. Clothes, duvets, shoes, cushions, toys, dvds,etc. They are all reasonably priced. There are now self service tills available.

Appalling customer service. Never will I shop in this store again. Went to pick up a click and collect item. Picked up a few other bits, asked can I collect and pay at same till and told yes that's fine. Staff had a change over while we was waiting to be served. Finally got served after long wait to be told I had to queue again to pay at self service for my items, threw them on counter and left. The woman was so rude and abrupt
Horrible customer service. The old blonde women on the tills was so rude she snatched my receipt out the self service and slammed it on the desk. I by accident dropped the self service scanner and one of the other old workers said is she trying to break it or what. Everytime i go into this store all the staff are just rude and act like they are working for free. They act like its rocket science that they are doing. Ive been in retail for every 10 years and never seen staff in any store this rude and up them selves. Who ever the manager is they need to train the staff asap or else they are gonna lose on customers. When ever i go staff is always arguing with customers. This wad the last time ill go to the dalston matalan. Woodgreen matalan staff are way more polite and helpful at least they smile at you not like these horrible unprofessional staff that act like they own the place.
My first and last visit to this store, customer service absolutely appalling. I required a bag for my purchases, only to be told ' over there' pointing to a rack of shopping bags, which I didn't want. Her attitude was something else. Needless to say , I left the purchases behind and walked out. I think your staff need a lesson in customer relations.
