⚠️ Safety Warning for LGBTQ+ Community in Leeds — Our Experience at a Local Bar The New Penny I’m sharing this publicly because I don’t want anyone else in our community to go through what my fiancé and I experienced. Recently, while visiting a well-known gay bar in Leeds, my fiancé and I were subjected to physical and verbal abuse, including homophobic slurs, by staff members. We did not act violently or physically in return. During the incident, my fiancé was lifted up and thrown to the ground, and we were punched multiple times in the face. We were shocked and terrified — especially because this happened in a place where LGBTQ+ people should feel safe. We immediately reported what happened to the police, but so far it doesn’t seem like much is being done. Because of that, I feel it’s important to share our experience publicly so others in the community, especially vulnerable people, are aware and can stay safe. This is our personal account of what happened, and we hope that by speaking out, steps will be taken to ensure that no one else is put at risk. LGBTQ+ venues should be safe spaces for everyone. If anyone else has had similar experiences, please speak up — your voice matters.

If I could give no stars I would, my friend and his partner was both attacked completely unprovoked this is meant to be a place that you are safe and you can be whoever you wish to be. Not the first time this has happened ! Don’t go near this place

Very friendly staff and suberb atmosphere, the only downside is that there is no tables and stools around the venue. It has gone down since it's hay day when first established as the new penny, but still a good venue for the vibes and friendliness

The atmosphere and people are good and the drinks are cheap ! But the bouncers are very rude. We went out for a cigarette and got accused of stealing someone’s pack of cigarettes even though we was outside for maybe 20 seconds. And then when we said we didn’t we were questioned as if we was lying then told to give them back ? They then said they’re gonna check the cameras further accusing us and of course they found nothing. Way too aggressive and rude.

Yesterday ,we come to this bar as we was at pride, so just popped in for a drink and was waiting at the bar as you do. A guy serving (wearing glasses) was the most rudest bar staff u could come across, completely blanked me at the bar, went to serve the people next to me who just got to the bar and when I said something the people next to me was like yeah you was there first, but the bar man was like I don’t care you can wait! Stinking attitude , I’m so glad I didn’t spend my money here, will never return and will definitely make sure none of my mates bring you any custom.

As a cis woman I wasn't treated very well - someone outright shoved me in the back as I was walking to the bathroom. Lots of people coming onto others without consent, my friend got grabbed and a man tried to pull her in to kiss her while she was trying to pull away. Witnessed someone sprinkling a powder into someone's drink at a bar and loads of people just openly doing poppers My male friend was made to feel really uncomfortable through unwanted physical advances, too. This place needs floor security At least the drinks were reasonably priced

Ok so late night, early morning experience, its fun and delightful. Playing a mix of modern hits and classic bangers that moves anyone nomatter the age or musical preferences. In short it may be a dingy dive to end the night but its a good end to finish on.

1 star is very generous. The door staff that were working on Monday night need gone ASAP!!! Never ever had a problem here and love the staff, drinks, atmosphere, music, banter everything can't fault that aspect. However the door men that worked Monday night need to be sacked ASAP. 3 forms of I'd to prove I'm overage, just for them to turn around and say I had photoshopped 3 physical forms of it. Carried on with me for a solid hour before I could get a taxi home. Just for them to then shout to the driver "don't take her she's bad too much to drink" which I calmly replied "how have I had too much to drink if you won't even let me in with 3 physical and legit forms of id" to which they then shouted "your barred" absolue joke. Unprovoked carry on just because I'm younger than some. Either they go or you lose very loyal customers and alot of them!

Absolutely disgusting behaviour by a rude bouncer with an attitude problem. What started off as a brilliant night ended up ruined by the bouncer at the door who was rude and obnoxious. At one point threatening for no reason at all other than to prove his authority. At no point was there any reason given for the attitude received despite being in another bar just moments before with no problems. Yet people completely intoxicated and evidently on drugs were allowed in with no questions asked.
