I often end up in here whilst waiting for the often late TPE trains. Always feels like a proper pub. A lot of the real ale beers are on offer. Some good old school memorabilia on the walls. You can enter via the platform or from the front of the station. Can get busy at times
We had a lovely stop here. The choice of ales is enormous and the pub has a lovely atmossphere. It's also very conveniently located right inside the train station and it has an outside sitting and smoking area. Don't let the dimly lit interior and some of the guests put you off. It only seems a bit grungy as first but most people there are as friendly and open to a chat as most Yorkshire people are. Great stop if you want to do the booze train journey from Leeds to Huddersfield.
Nice traditional proper station pub. Warm, friendly atmosphere with friendly bar staff and in general a good place to have a drink whilst waiting for a train. Certainly the highlight of travelling through Dewsbury.
Proper pub run by proper people. Decent beers and food. gets really busy at times. Quick update, Sunday lunch is still great value. Proper grub. Weekdays menu hasn't changed much and is still tasty and fair value. Ever changing beer menu gives you plenty of drinking choice. Still a top place for a feed and a drink or three.......
I’d heard word about the Sunday Roast Dinner at the Ridings for a couple of weeks at this point but it’s only once I’d tried it for myself did I understand the hype. Sylvia and the staff have put together a no-frills, no menu ‘take what you’re given and enjoy’ feast of wonderfully cooked beef on a bed of mash with veg, stunning roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese and a nicely crisp and fluffy Yorkshire Pudding. The gravy is thick and beefy, the CAMRA-endorsed bar selection is expansive and deep, the decor is rich and colourful, and the atmosphere is a heady mix of warm welcome for newcomers with that confidence of a pub that knows exactly how good it is. The West Ridings really is a venue that you have to give a go at some point in your life before you head on down the road… highly recommended.
