We had a family meal out the other weekend and everymeal was fantastic. From a mixed grill to a chicken burger. Was a busy Saturday night and service was still good. The guy was doing most tables him self but still felt he had a good handle on all tables. Brother said it was the best treacle sponge he has ever had. Only slight fault was deserts were abit pricey.

Three friends and I went to the Angel last week for lunch. What a disappointment! Two of us had the cod and chips. We were each presented with a huge piece of batter which contained a very small piece of, presumably, cod which was very greasy and overcooked. This was on a bed of mediocre 'oven' chips with a splodge of mushy peas. Even the tartar sauce wasn't authentic. My friend wisely left most of hers wheras I endured the after-effects of grease overload! This cost Β£23.50 which I considered a total rip-off.

Lovely little pub. Why 2 star? Simple... Service was appalling. Early Friday evening. Only one member of staff behind the bar. Waited ages outside for someone to take our order. So went in to the bar. Told they would bring it to our table. After 20 minutes I asked how my order was coming. Told it was on the way. After 35 minutes, our drinks arrived. For clarity, 3 pints of beer. No cocktails. How long does it take to pour 3 pints? 35 minutes at the Angel apparently. Think it might had been quicker if brewed it myself. Next round, ordered at the table. This took over 20 minutes to arrive. Overall though, lovely pub. Decent prices. Assume the National Insurance increase has resulted in them needing to reduce serving staff below a level that enables them to serve paying customers in a timely manner. Recommend you go, if not in a hurry.

First time visiting this Delightful pub with all my favourites on the menu. We were greeted and showed to our table with a smile as if we were regular’s felt very welcome, Staff were genuinely amazing couldn’t ask for more. Left with a smile and a very full belly.

Nice/pub/restaurant/inn. Good rooms, plenty of parking, quite road which was originally the A1 up till 1960, now bypassed so it is quiet. Large garden with children's play area at the back. A good selection of meals available, mainly around Β£15 to Β£20. A good place to stop if you are travelling from London to the Lake District/Northumberland/Edinburgh.

Stopped off for a quick meal on a Saturday evening. We were lucky as they managed to squeeze us in but would recommend booking ahead. Really nice choice of food and drinks, ample parking and excellent service.

Went for a family meal with 10 of us eating. The staff were friendly and the whole place had the inviting feel of a traditional pub. Food was beautiful I chose the steak in ale pudding and was not disappointed. My only regret was not leaving room to try a dessert. We will definitely be visiting again.

Have been here for food on and off for years and always had excellent service and food. The bar is good and reasonably priced. The food is also reasonably priced with generous portions. The steak has always been a winner here.

Wow... Wow... wow... This little gem is by far the best place to eat for miles and miles and rates in one of my "best places to eat". Our group doubled unannounced which usually means slow and poor service and bad food anywhere else, however these guys stepped it up provided some of the best service I have experienced and turned out just awesome food. 5 stars is not enough

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here. Excellent food, reasonably priced and large portions. The roast beef was delicious. Staff were all very friendly and there is a great homely feel to the pub. It was quite busy but we did not have to book and had no problem getting a table. Real ales were very good too.
