I travelled from Derby to visit this GBG pub on Saturday October 28th arriving at 12.50 to find the pub in darkness so I popped in the pub down the road for a quick half. When I returned at 1.00 there was still no sign of activity. So much for the opening times outside the pub! Thankfully my trip wasn't a total waste as the Oxbow and Two and Six micro pubs were both visited and both excellent....and open. Did return on 1.11.25 at a time when I was confident it would be open. I like old, characterful pubs, which this most certainly is, it is also the most unwelcoming pub I have ever been in.

Great real ales, Chantry brewery friendly and allows well behaved dogs

Excellent beer, friendly staff, warm welcome, well worth dropping by to quench your thirst, and we'll definitely be back again soon. Neighbours aren't exactly the life and soul of the party, but I suppose that they have a good enough excuse. Just makes you even more glad to be alive.

Australian tourist. I was at first nervous seeing the huge beefy bartender behind the counter but he treated me like a friend rather than a stranger. Gave me a run down on the history of the pub which dates back to the crusades. Craft ales are excellent as well.

Proper local without the fuss and noise of normal bars. Great place to relax, have a drink and chat. The idea is simple enough but difficult to find nowadays.

Great traditional pub with 4 real ales from the Chantry brewery. Worth trying to get an express bus from the city centre X5 or X54, otherwise it's a bit slow.
