Stoped overnight in a loverly room. Great location for shopping. Had a evening meal there roast beef which was superb and breakfast was loverly too. All very reasonable. Shopping next day. And went back for another roast turkey this time. Very good service and food. Paula and tony
Absolutely love this place. The food is excellent, can't fault this venue in any way. Wonderful ambience, excellent service and amazing food every time. It's an absolute pleasure to dine here.
We booked a table for our wedding anniversary after seeing the tapas deal and thought it would be a lovely way to celebrate. I booked online and noted that it was for our anniversary. When we arrived, we were seated at what was basically a narrow breakfast bar with a radiator pressed against our knees. It felt more suited for a quick drink than for an anniversary meal. I tried to raise this politely — the younger staff member was understanding, but the older blonde woman and the man with spiked hair were incredibly rude. The woman insisted I had chosen that table myself, which I definitely hadn’t. The man even brought over a tablet to “prove” it, where you could clearly see I’d noted it was an anniversary booking. Regardless of the occasion, no customer deserves to be spoken to like that — but especially not on what was meant to be a special night. No attempt was made to offer a solution or show any care at all. Both my husband and I have worked in hospitality (I’ve worked in management), and we’d never dream of treating guests that way. It was clear they just didn’t care. We decided to leave, and shortly after, I received a notification that they’d tried to charge £20 — presumably for refusing the table. Thankfully, we managed to get a last-minute booking at The Market Pub, where the staff were absolutely lovely and the service was fantastic, and the food was excellent. If you want great food and genuine hospitality, I’d recommend giving them your support instead.
This was my first time visiting The Spread Eagle and I certainly won't be returning. I had arranged to meet friends who I hadn't seen in months. I booked a table well ahead of time and was informed via the booking system that we would have the table for 2 hours, a reasonable amount of time for a meal and a catch up. However, after just 1 hour, the waitress told us that they needed our table because they had a larger booking coming in. We had only just finished our main course and were just about to order dessert when this happened. The waitress clarified that we didn't have time to order dessert. This meant we had to cut our evening short and I had to stand outside in the cold, dark street as a vulnerable young female whilst I waited for my partner to collect me an HOUR sooner than planned. Had we been informed ahead of time that we would only have an hour, we likely would have chosen elsewhere to meet which is probably why they didn't bother, despite having my contact details. I think it is a bit rich that if we cancelled, we would have been charged £10 per head yet they can chuck us out without warning, halfway through our meal. The food itself was not great with weird smelling mussles and severely undercooked roast potatoes, neither of which I could eat with fear of being ill. Overall, a poor experience and not somewhere I would recommend.
We made in impromptu visit on a Saturday afternoon for a light lunch and chose three tapas dishes with a portion of chunky chips. The service was timely and friendly and the tapas dishes were cooked excellently. The maple halloumi in particular was delicious and my wife commented that it was the best halloumi she had tasted. Really well presented inside, the pub doesn’t draw you in quite as much from the outside, but don’t be deterred, give it a try. We will be back soon
Room was great, good location and very convenient. I think there should have been a little bit better communication about the breakfast though. I'm sure I was told served until 10:30an. To my disappointment I was turned away at 10:15am told it ended at 9:30am. I'm not even sure it was listed on the laminate of services left in the room. It was a good stat nether the less. I'll look them up again and double check and set an alarm for breakfast next time as the room wasn't cheap.
Excellent service! A wonderfully warm welcome to the hotel. Ample private parking. Smart bar. Well appointed, clean bedrooms with roomy ensure and large walk in shower. Steep staircase. Breakfast choice was very good, we had eggs royale and our friends had full English. Breakfast was excellent. We will definitely consider staying here again.
A real little gem to be found in the middle of Chesterfield. The staff were really helpful and welcoming. The pub and its bedrooms have recently been refurbished to a very nice standard. Just take care on the stairs, they're an original feature and a little steep, but the bedrooms are worth the climb. An added bonus was the free guest carpark.
