Had a lovely visit to The Wheatsheaf. The eggs Benedict was perfectly done, rich and well balanced, and the Guinness was spot on, smooth and properly poured. Big shoutout to Sean for the excellent service, friendly, attentive and made us feel very welcome. Beth was great as well, really warm and welcoming. Will definitely be back.
Don't have the Fish and chips. Swimming in oil. Pool of oil on plate, chips soaked and peas socked in oil. When I 8nformed staff they said they would inform the Chef but no apology. Waited for desert menu informed staff. Never arrived. Appealing food and service. Far better places to eat in Bakewell.
We had a roast dinner ( with a free child’s roast), very tasty! And lovely atmosphere. Server Charlotte was very nice, assisted in extra sauces and washing child’s pots.
Such a lovely place. Came here on a wet Sunday afternoon after a 15k walk with our 2 giant dogs. Staff were so lovely, really welcoming and super accepting of our dogs! Offered us multiple tables and asked which would suit us best. And the Sunday dinner was out of this world. The best we’ve had in a while. Thank you!
We came here as a group of 10 and they were so accommodating in creating a table for us all. Charlotte served us and was so friendly and helpful! Definitely made the experience! The service was incredibly quick and the food was delicious! Would highly recommend this!
Absolutely loved this pub. The food was superb. I had Haddock, Chips and Mushy peas and my partner and her sister had fish finger sanwiches. They weren't any old fish fingers from a box, they were hand cooked chunky pieces of fish in batter. Best food I've ever had from a pub in a long while. Plus the interior was very warming and clean.
Reasonably good service, but had to keep reminding them what we had ordered. The baked cod on the menu said it came with new potatoes. It actually came with a squashed baked potatoe. Cod was nice, but rather watery. If it had been baked, then it should not have been so watery. Outside the pub looks very smart and inside was not too bad, although the tables had been cleared they had not been wiped down. Outside it stated "Artisan cakes puddings and pastries". Not much evidence of those. Food was also rather expensive for what you actually got.
Popped in for lunch as dog friendly and menu looked good. Staff were friendly and helpful but weren't very flexible with the menu options (couldn't substitute chips) and unfortunately didn't explain they had supply issues so one main turned up incomplete. It would have been better if they advised us of this before ordering as it would have influenced the order. Food was average and certainly not worth the price we paid. They did do some nice halloumi fries.
Fantastic pub! We came across this when looking for somewhere dog friendly in the town. We couldn't have been happier. We were told before we were sat that food did not start for an hour but this was fine for us (we arrived at 11am with 2 newborns and 2 dogs!). When we did order food we were more than pleasantly surprised. The portions were huge but the quality matched too (see pictures!). Would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Bakewell. (The second picture shows the size of the fish 'fingers' in the fish finger sandwich!!)
I ordered salmon and season vegetables. I ended up receiving raw leeks in big chunks, which I couldn't eat. The man at the tills asked me if everything was ok but then he completely ignored my complaint. For that price I honestly expected something else. My partner's pie was good tho.
