   After visiting in person, I found the best solution was to order online (for range/size) - delivered the next day - and then it’s very easy to return to the store rather than post back. I ordered 5 pairs of hiking boots and kept one. This is definitely my preferred retailer/method.

   If you are looking for decently stocked Cotswold store, please find one in a different area (Central London or Kingston) - Chertsey one, contrary to my expectations (as it sports car park) seems to be like a boutique variety with few items, mainly smaller sizes and slightly arrogant sales assistants. There was absolutely no item in 3XL among the fleeces and jackets. I am aware some manufacturers don't go higher than XXL, but I know those who do. I am in the market for a Goretex jacket with fleece and drove 12 miles prepared to spend around 500 pounds... Staff wasn't very helpful and they were more interested in a clients browsing through Arc'teryx and other ultra expensive items. It was my first and last time at Cotswold Outdoor Chertsey.

   I think this branch is suffering: When I visited, there didn't seem to be enough staff. And of those that were there, nothing seems to work. They couldn't find the stock item I wanted, which was appearing in stock on their system. Then, they couldn't seem to get through to another branch to check their stock. While I was being served, several other customers waited impatiently, asking to see the manager, who was nowhere to be found. I left empty handed and none the wiser. Phoned alternitive branch myself on the way out for the door. Not a pleasant experience. A shame to see such a good location let down.

   Went to exchange some walking boots bought as a Christmas gift (with a receipt) but which were slightly ṭoo narrow at the toes. Tomasz was the member of staff who looked after me (and others) during a very busy period in the shop. He was very helpful and patient as I tried to find boots that fit, and then organised an order for home delivery for me when the I found the boots but they did not have the colour I preferred in stock.

   Although there has been a lot of change in the store the knowledge and friendly attitude from the staff has not changed. They were very helpful and informative in finding the correct boot for my wife. Will definitely be back in Spring to replace my walking shoes.
