Upon entering I couldnβt see any menu board. I asked the man behind the counter if they still did sandwiches This question seemed to annoy him and he pointed to a laminated piece of paper on the counter and said in an aggravated voice β yeh theyβre on the menuβ As I was expecting my mother, daughter and granddaughter to join me I left without buying anything. I wouldnβt want to put the staff to any inconvenience of serving the customers. If a small question could cause such an aggravated reaction.

Amazing little place for a coffee and some food. Loved their fresh soup of the day. Amazing flavour and great price. The service was excellent, the staff are really kind. Will highly recommend. Plan on come back more often.

Noticed this place as I parked outside whilst visiting a relative in the hospital. The place itself is just a short walk from the hospital and the decor, ambiance and friendly service make it a true oasis in which to take a break from the hospital environment! A warm friendly greeting and efficient service was appreciated. The price and value for the food and drinks Iβd describe as good. I will certainly be returning any time I am visiting the hospital!

Absolutely awful food. Visited The Gates when it was first opened after being taken over from the previous owner when it was named The Allotment. Went for lunch with my partner and had a Tuna salad sandwich each. Could have made it better myself at home. Cheap supermarket own brand bread and very thin with cheap tasting Tuna. Unappetising and unpleasant. Never returned until yesterday for breakfast for Mother's Day. Ordered a bacon sandwich but it was called "Butty" which I instantly thought cringe! With thick cut bread. My eye thick cut. Again cheap thin cut supermarket bread. The bacon, well it was like a sheet of metal and you could bang it on the table and it made the table shake. Awful and inedible. I took it back and said it was rock hard. The waitress apologised and did offer another but I said no. So just had a pot of tea which was nice. My partner had a teacake which he said was ok. The other waitress did come out and again apologised and said my order had got mixed up with another customer who had ordered their bacon well done. But there was nobody else in. I wonder why? Will not be going there again and I certainly do not recommend it for breakfast or lunch as the food is terrible.
