This is a very quiet very old Lancashire pub the interior is unique and it has a thatched roof. The Management are extremely friendly and the beer on hand pump and on dispenser is all well kept. There’s an excellent beer garden outside terrace to the rear and a large covered area inside a marquee. Food options are limited to local pies which are delicious and also a cheeseboard which is tremendous Highly recommended if you’re passing along the road from Maghull to Southport It’s located in Lydiate next to the Lydiate Abbey ancient monument. A very pleasant rural location to feel next door often has Highland cows in it . Be sure to visit either of the nearby farm shops both of which sell a range of fresh vegetables locally produced jams and spreads And General groceries.

Honestly, the sheer audacity of the new "Dog Rules" here has left me utterly fuming. As a responsible dog owner, I am accustomed to being mindful of others, but this list reads like it was written by someone who actively despises our furry companions. "Please be considerate"? Excuse me, but the tone of the entire sign is anything but considerate! It's accusatory and frankly, quite rude. The subsequent litany of demands feels like we're being treated like unruly children, not valued customers. The Scotch used to be a really nice pub that gave a nice welcoming atmosphere. We enjoyed stopping off here after a long dog walk as it's in the perfect area. From looking at the points made we know there's one staff member (Blonde Lady) who is less than welcoming to dogs so I guess she's the one who typed this up. No dogs that Bark? I'm sorry should I ask my dog to 'Meow' instead? "It drives some people insane" - just feels rude and hostile. This is a blatant and insulting generalisation about dogs. If they can't tolerate the occasional natural sound a dog might make, perhaps this lady should consider a different line of business. The arbitrary time restrictions on Friday and Saturday evenings feel unnecessarily restrictive and unwelcoming. No dogs after 8pm inside? Exactly what harm are they doing after 8pm? The begrudging "Thanks" at the end does little to soften the harsh and negative tone of the entire message also. It feels more like an afterthought, a mere formality after a list of demands that paints dog owners as a nuisance Don't think I'll be coming back again as it all of a sudden doesn't seem welcoming. Good Job we have the likes of The Running Horses who will now be getting all my custom. Especially on a Friday and Saturday night.

No food as such (though we had great bacon and egg barm on a Sunday morning)though I believe the cheese board really good. Small bar but the staff are great and any queues move quickly. Has a nice feeling to the place with staff, locals and other visitors such as ourselves chatting and getting on well with all around. Our friendly dog made friends with a few other friendly dogs too. WELL WORTH A VISIT. Oh, live music was great too.

A beautiful venue to have an intimate gathering of friends & family, celebrating love of our beautiful mates. Cannot say anything better about service of the staff and the owner, they were lovely and so kind. Drinks were also delicious!

Called in whilst doing the lydiate loop walk. Wow what a fascinating little find. Lovely old pub steeped in history. The staff were so friendly and made my dog very welcome. Dog biscuits and water. Had a bacon barm cake, lovely. The toilets are outside but don't let that put you off, they are beautiful and clean.

First visit here. Proper old fashioned pub, low ceilings, tiny bar but great atmosphere. Good cask ales too. Few too many dogs lying around for my liking but just personal preference. Will gladly visit again.

A great pub, beautiful, unique building with a tiny old school, meaning REALLY old school dinky little bar. Consistently lovely staff, loads of outdoor seating, or, if you want to pretend you're in The Green Dragon in Hobbiton you can drink indoors, enjoying a real fire in the wintertime. There's an outdoor bar and often barbecued food in Summer, fancy pants posh car night on Mondays or better still around two zillion motorbikes on a good Wednesday evening. What's not to like?

Brilliant little pub has plenty on for adults and children. Biker night on a Wednesday and classic car night on a Monday. Both of wich always turn out a decent crowd.
