Following my recent experience, I would not recommend Alfred Newton to anyone who is looking for a solicitor to assist with a house move. They represented my buyer in a house sale and caused nothing but delays, upset and worry to all parties involved in the process. The solicitor from Alfred Newton was Amy Dickens and I am little surprised at the good reviews on here around Amy as my experience has been very different. I will keep this succinct for the purpose of this review but I have the detail and evidence of the concerns raised which I have been collating throughout the whole process for onward escalation. The whole process took way longer than it should have done, mainly due to the fact that no one picks up any of Amyβs cases when she isnβt in the office (she works part time hours). This makes the process twice as long as it should be. It was clear that Amyβs lack of knowledge around leasehold apartments was a factor in the delays β often using my solicitor for clarification on things she should have known. Amy also asked for payment for things from me as a seller such as deed of covenant fees which most people know this should be covered by her client β again something she needed reminding of (and a quick google search confirms this too). Enquiries were raised that were repetitive and answers to these overlooked and her lack of urgency on submitting relevant information to mortgage lenders created delays and stress for everyone. As the process had been going on for so long (5-6 months) both my solicitor and the estate agent had to escalate their concerns to a senior partner within the organisation. An intervention by a partner of the firm shouldnβt be necessary, but was definitely needed in this case as Amyβs attitude towards the sale was becoming very unprofessional. These delays and the lack of explanation to my buyer about their options meant my buyer pulled out of the sale just as we were due to complete. Fortunately for me, I was still able to complete on my own purchase, however my buyer was devastated. If you are looking for a smooth, professional and efficient solicitor then I would look elsewhere than Alfred Newton.

Purchased a property using Alfred Newton Solicitors and found the process to be very friendly and professional. Amy and Jackie explained the process well and kept us informed throughout. I will definitely use their services again and can recommend to others.
