Very busy today but a big thank you to Katrina for her great service. A few items were no longer available today so I ordered a toastie. The one I ordered wasn’t ready as a batch was being prepared. She kindly bought it over to my table. The toastie was very tasty. Many thanks :)
What a pity - So, I visited this venue with my daughter and two young grandsons at around midday on Christmas Eve. A really lovely atmosphere and very Christmassy, as you would expect. The two young assistants who were serving teas, coffees, cakes etc., were exceptionally polite, helpful and upbeat. We enjoyed our drinks and cake and were about to leave, to continue shopping. However, things took a very unexpected turn. As we stood up, I said, "Oh, I meant to grab a tray, to clear the table!" as I always do! As I said this, a young chap with dark wavy hair, and whom I am guessing, was employed to clear tables, crashed a tray so hard on our table that we actually jumped! I said, "I'm sorry," I was about to add that I was just going to get a tray, but this very ignorant little tyke, just turned his back and walked off! I was so infuriated that I followed after him! However, the cowardly little Grinch, went through the staff door and out of sight! Such a shame, as apart from that incident, it was a very enjoyable visit!
No gluten free or dairy free options. I expected more from John Lewis, especially to keep up with other establishments. I should have gone to Marks and Spencers cafe instead, as at least they offer jacket potatoes . John Lewis Deli food and cakes aren't labelled with ingredients. When i asked them of their options, young staff had little knowledge on what their food contains. I didn't want to be that person holding everyone up those in the queue, so i behaved like a good ol' "normal person" and accepted my fate. Luckily my daughter is allergen free and was able to eat her food which was lovely for her. I was left hungry and went to Leon, where they have plentiful gluten free and dairy free options.
Not a great experience. Can’t rate the food as I left due to staff being unable to provide an allergy free sandwich for a 6 year old. One member was happy to help until another stated it wasn’t their policy to make a sandwich without butter. I understand this but the bread was behind the counter and I suggested one slice only with ham. They were happily making a sausage sandwich for another customer! I was also informed (with attitude) that it wasn’t a cafe. One lady was trying to be helpful to a child with a dairy allergy but unfortunately she was blocked from doing so. I’d complain to a manager but I’m guessing I’ll get the same “not our policy” approach. We took our custom elsewhere.
Visited Sunday and the experience was not good. Tables left unclear from previous customers, meaning the next we’re having to move dirty crockery to sit down. Staff attitudes at the till was abrupt and almost rude. We bought a couple of bottled drinks to accompany our meal and not even offered a glass or straw. Food mediocre. A visit to the toilets showed a lack of hygiene and pride in the establishment. We’re better off using the food court on our next visit.
Decent place to have a morning coffee or tea but wide open and brightly lit so not a particularly nice atmosphere. Not bad either - just a bit bland! Rather expensive (over £11 for tea for two and two slice of cake.)
The young men collecting the plates and dirty dishes should be complimented for the quickness and efficiency of cleaning. John Lewis is catered for families and all ages. We had some delicious soup and purchased items for our baby to eat. There are lovely views of Bluewater. Staff are polite and friendly. The food was wholesome and tasty. I would recommend for anyone wanting a clean environment and great experience whilst shopping.
Had a really nice lunch here with my wife but only gave three stars for service, the staff were superb and very helpful but just not enough of them and so the queue was lengthy and the wait to be served a little too long.
Would like to give this place more stars. First there needs to be some changes. The hot food counter needs to be open serving breakfasts and hot meals throughout the day. Better organisation of serving customers. The good points are lovely cakes and cream teas. Also very nice cup of tea and coffees. The place to eat is very busy so please serve us what we all want... hot food all day. The only other negative is always closes far too early. Should be open until 6pm.
