Popped into the black lion the other day for the first time, being greeted by the lovely gentleman behind the bar. He gave such a warm welcome and I will definitely be in for another pint soon! Cheers to the black lion for your hospitality, and cheers to you, Charlie!

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel at all. It was a horrible experience that I didn’t even get to stay there. I had booked 2 rooms to share between 5 grown men via booking.com. I messaged the hotel on booking.com the before arriving to find out what was the latest time check in time and they had told me they there was a problem with the plumbing in one the rooms and said they were trying to get it fixed. They suggested that if they couldn’t get it fixed then they would have to put all 5 of us in one room but it would be terribly tight. What if I didn’t message them the day before, would I have arrived on the day only to be told that they cannot honour my booking?? Anyway, I had messaged them early the next morning and they had said that they were still trying to fix the plumbing and that they would keep me updated. A few hours later they told me that they couldn’t honour my booking so I had to find a new hotel. They said they were going to refund me directly and asked me for my details to do so and said that they would do it and send me a receipt immediately. I kept having to follow up with them for the refund and they just never came back to me. I eventually had to go through booking.com and they had to cancel the booking so I could get my refund, which I eventually got 2 weeks later. The hotel probably didn’t want to cancel the booking so that they could keep the money.

I loved everything about this experience. We wanted the experience of staying in a pub in London that wasn't just a tourist trap. This place is clearly well run and well loved by it's patrons. The service was great, and the Thai food was too notch, and the rooms were very clean. We could hear karaoke night going on from our room, and that was to be expected, but it sounded so fun if we weren't so bagged we would have gone down to joined in. We would absolutely stay here again. The owner is delightful.

Sophie was on her own behind the bar, she was efficient, business focused, proactive and indescribably charming. If I could bottle her vibe I would sprinkle it everywhere and the world would immediately be a much better place.

Stepped over a toddler to order at the bar. My pint arrived with a generous millimeter of head and tasted like cottage cheese. To their credit, they exchanged it. For another pint that tasted like cottage cheese. You will have a more pleasant experience buying a tinny from the local off-licence and drinking it on a park bench.

I was here celebrating new year. It was a great atmosphere and no fights. Everyone was kind of looking out for each other. The frightening bit was when they locked everyone in the building and locked the garden doors. I have special needs. I was totally terrified. Nothing short of a miracle that I was not carried out in an ambulance. Not going there at night again but sure it’s fine if I went for a lunch time brew

I really like this pub, nothing flashy but dogs and kids were welcome, and it felt like a good mix of locals and people in to watch the football. Plenty of space, lots of tables. Would visit again.

This place contains a pub and some 8 hotel rooms. This is about our stay in the hotel. This place should definitely be called "The Dusty Lion"! I really have no problems with old, traditional and somewhat small rooms. But this place was really annoying! Four needs were squeezed in the booked twin room, so that one could hardly turn. Bedside tables were improvised with chairs. And then the dirt: garbage and dust clouds under the beds, a huge dirt spot on the carpet was lovingly concealed with a small piece of carpet. The whole stairwell and the rooms smelled of fried food in the evening.... The night exit leads outside through the scullery and backyard. Mold and peeling wallpaper in the bathroom plus a disgustingly dirty fan. There was an electrical box in the room that hummed constantly.

We went to a party for my Son. (The Black Lion is his regular pub) My daughter in law organised it. Staff did food. Fantastic time. Very friendly. Although extremely busy Staff managed to keep smiling. Will definitely visit again when I'm in the area. Thank you Mark
