This pub is very comfy cosy, full of life at night. However there is never enough staff for table service so you have to fight through the crowd to get to the bar to ordrr anything and the app does not work. Management please fix this.
The food is great but unfortunately they’ve cut back a lot on the vegetarian options. Really limited now with no burgers or grilled halloumi flatbread or battered halloumi on chips. Staff are always great but it’s a shame to see the vegetarian option go back to such a limited selection again

If you didn’t believe the California pub could be a fantastic venue for a wedding think again! The pub, staff, owner and managers are absolutely first class! The venue was incredible and it made for the best wedding one could ask for! The lighting, cosy warmth of the venue and the accessibility and space was incredible. The owner Isabella is such an incredible gracious soul and seriously couldn’t have made it happen without her!!! She was so accommodating and resourceful and really provided everything we needed for the big day! The venue was well equipped, staff were great and they allowed us to bring in our own items to decorate the place in the way and style we wanted too! Without any force or resistance. From the bottom of my heart I can’t thank Isabella and everyone at the California enough! All the guests had a place to park their cars. The location was great and peaceful and the venue is perfect for a small intimate wedding. Would do it all over again and twice on a Sunday if we could thank you ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Pictures shown do not do the pub justice. We were in the quiet area, which was perfect for the company we were keeping. There are 3 main areas the bar and seats. LH side is a nice bright room with plenty of tables. RH side is spacious seating unlike weather spoons. There are a few TVs around Good size garden area The food and service was very good and very well priced. We were all pleasantly surprised on the food tbh
Had the Sunday roast, beef was a little dry. They had forgotten the pigs and blankets but then gave some extra. Overall food was good, kids were happy with there meals. Waiting time was a little long, but it's good to have the time and actually talk with no devices. Staff friendly.
Went to this pub with my partner, my mum and dad, and 2 x dogs for the first time. We had a fantastic time here! The pub is VERY dog friendly, which was great, and the dogs loved exploring the grassy outdoor area. The food and drink here is very very reasonably priced, and the food is delicious, with HUGE portions! We had the nachos to start (with beef chilli added) which were the best nachos I've ever had. The drink prices are great, and the staff fussed my two dogs (which they loved). Will definitely be coming back here :) ADDED NOTE: there is a large free car park in front of the pub which is handy!
My first visit to this pub. A large family friendly pub which was very clean and well presented. The staff were lovely and knew how to pour both a good Guinness and ale = both of which were excellent. There is quite a large beer garden out the back. We didn't eat but what I saw made me think about it. Great value. Spot the interesting history note at the bar.
I visited each day whilst looking after my brother's dog as it's location next to Banstead Common is perfect for a liquid pit stop for thirsty dog walkers. The staff were very helpful in bringing a water bowl out to the garden, and the other customers are friendly giving Gloucester lots of attention. "Dog friendly" should be added to the pub's details. The outside area is huge, with great huts. The real ale was good apart from one visit which accounts for the loss of one star. I look forward to visiting when I'm in the area again.
