The Duke – What a Pleasant Surprise! Popped into The Duke completely by chance after a visit to the doctors across the road. We’d actually planned to eat somewhere else, but the menu caught our eye and we decided to give it a go. The pub has a lot of character, two pool tables, and really friendly staff. Only downside was that our meals didn’t arrive together – I’d already finished my pizza by the time the other main came out. That said, the food was tasty, drinks were spot on, and you can tell there’s been real effort put into making this a place worth visiting. a DJ turned up and played some great music for a few minutes while setting up for a live broadcast – added a fun vibe to the afternoon have to return when they have music. Can’t believe I’ve never been in here before! We’ll definitely be coming back, hopefully for a proper night out with good music. Only negative – the graffiti in the toilets lets it down a bit. Still, looking forward to heading back soon for a drink and a dance.

We had the wedding reception for my daughter and her husband here in March 2024.  It was the first wedding reception to be held at the Duke although the staff were experienced and it went really well. The Duke had had some redecoration in the weeks before the wedding and it looked great while keeping the ‘urban’ feel that the couple wanted.  We provided a table plan and example table layout and Alex and his team worked really hard to get everything ready for first thing on the day. All we had to do was to get our florist to come down in the morning to add flowers on all the tables and around the room.  The venue was able to seat 80 guests comfortably. The Duke provided the catering and we offered guests a choice of two starters and two mains plus vegetarian option. They were able to cater for gluten free.  Everyone agreed that the food was great and the service was efficient and friendly.  We paid for welcome drinks and wine with the meal then the bar was open from 7.30.  Bar spend was deducted from the overall minimum spend agreed. It was useful having the extra room at the side for the welcome drinks and for guests to leave coats, etc.  The Duke provided door security. We provided our own DJ and after the meal the Duke staff cleared space for the dance floor.  The pool tables were also very popular! All in all we were very happy.  If you want something different to the country house or barn style of reception, the Duke is a great alternative

Great pub with nice sofa, pool tables and choice of food (good vegan bran burger) and drink. Music erratic and multiple screens quite off putting. Would be better switched off.

Nice big pub with outside area. Great staff and fantastic Sunday lunch and other food. Good value for money.

Visited in the early afternoon on a Sunday in early October. Had a very nice lunch here. Big seating areas indoors and out. Lots of families here for the lunch. Nice food options, all the classics. We had a roast and fish and chips. Both tasty, uncomplicated, good value. Friendly staff. The beer selection was a bit poor, sadly, very little in the way of independent breweries. We had a good experience overall and would happily return.

We popped in this pub during our bike trip. The beer is great and food is tasty. There was a misunderstanding with the order, but they quickly sorted it out and changed the dish and we are very grateful for that. Thanks!

I’ve had my eye on this place for ages. I’ve always admired & taken pics of the place (it’s a very photogenic part of the street!) and i even follow and regularly interact with the business on Instagram. But yesterday I visited for the first time, and was disappointed that no-one welcomed us, showed us to our table (I had booked in advance), gave us menus - nothing. We weren’t even sure who actually worked there. Realised that we just had to go up to the bar to get the menus, I did so. Once we decided what we were having, I went back to order than was then told they didn’t have any roast chicken left. It was 3.45pm on a Sunday - THE day for Sunday roasts - and they’d already run out of chicken! So, overall, far from the best experience. Especially as the girl behind the bar could’ve told me there were no more chicken roasts available at the same time I picked up the menus. Felt like a waste of time. We ended up going to a pub in Highams Park instead and not only got gorgeous roast chicken dinners, but a nice warm welcome too!

A spacious pub with a nice playlist, tasty food (especially the triple cooked chips and buffalo wings) interesting tables, comfy chairs on some tables, and great customer service. There is free Wi-Fi, toilets are always clean, and there is a spacious pub garden as well. I enjoy going here and would recommend it!
