My god this pub is amazing. If you want a classic old british pub experience then you've got to check this place out. The location is superb and let me tell you... the steak and ale pie is to die for. I've had some spectacular meals in London... nothing compares to this pie! Anyhow check it out! You might see me because now I always want to go back so see you there!

Nice old pub, and a famous one. Looks very giod frim the insude as wellas frim the outside. Nice wooden murials inside, deoicting the life of friars. Multiple beers and drinks availeable, as well as classic pubmeals. There is also a seperate dining area.

Beautiful looking pub inside and out! Decor is amazing. A bit snug inside (had to stand with my pint) but there is lots of seating, guess it just depends on time of day? Good selection of beers and ales, good location near the Thames and tube stations.

I was on a guided tour of historic pubs and this was one of the stops. A place that was in the “Men in Black” movie! I just had a pint and the history and background about this this pub is great. Love the decor and is definitely interesting, probably the most unique. A phenomenal place to socialize with a drink. I’d definitely come back here again.

We ate at a number of pubs in London on our trip. By far, this was my favorite. It has a great selection of beer on tap, as well as a nice selection of gin and whiskey. However, the food was great. We had the diah and chips - very nicely cooked and the steak pie, which was yummy. The also had the best burger we had in all the various pubs in which we ate. Great decor and quite busy. We had a bit of difficulty in getting all our food in a timely fashion, but it all arrived nice and hot.

The Blackfriar gets it's name as it was built on the site of an old monastery. When you walk in the first thing you do is look around you everywhere as it is stunning. It is part of the Nicholson chain of pubs so it does decent food, I had a vegetable&lentil pie and it set me up well for a day of drinking! In the 1960's The Blackfriar was nearly lost to redevelopment, which goes to show how fragile the future of pubs even the most historic can be. It is conveniently located across the road from...you guessed it Blackfriars Station, it is on the Thameslink or the London Underground.

After visiting The Blackfriar I’ve become concerned that my future pub experiences may now be in jeopardy. I say that because I imagine that it will be difficult for me to not compare those future experiences to this present one. For starters, the building that houses it is just so unique. This iconic, wedge-shaped masterpiece is literally impossible to ignore as you pass by. Standing proudly since 1875, it was built on the site of a Dominican friary. Shockingly it proved to be the target of an unsuccessful “redevelopment” in the 60’s. Legend has it that it’s unconscionable demolition was prevented, in large part, by the efforts of Sir John Betjeman. It’s my understanding that many have proposed a toast to him while visiting and we join them in saying, “Cheers!” The wood features throughout help to amplify the volume of its merry patrons, whom we found to be good natured and nearly raucous. The traditional fish and chips were good, but the “mushy peas” (terrible name in my opinion) were actually even better. There are a few choice nooks to be had if you feel the need (and have the permission) to cozy up to someone special. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #blackfriarpublondon

Here for the interiors and old pub experience. Didn’t disappoint! Place has so much character. Wouldn’t necessarily come here for food but the beer and ambience made up for it. Service can be slow because they’re usually busy but staff at that time was really nice.

An unusual and potentially beautiful pub interior but not very clean, rather dilapidated and rude staff. A woman behind the bar was deliberately and unnecessarily rude, barking at us during a food order because the menu wasn't clear and we didn't know what was available. It's a shame when staff show such disdain for their customers. The food however was standard but nicely prepared.

Lovely little find in the heart of London. The decor is brilliant. Staff were good, fast and efficient. Food was good too - not amazing, but worth the money - and I will definitely be back in the future
