I recently wrote a review about my disappointment with the recent refurbishment in this pub . It was meant for the owners Mitchellβs and Butlers to read . In no way was it a personal slight on the management and staff . I was not aware of the full facts regarding local artists works being reinstated. I am really happy to hear that and therefore I apologise for that review . I also did not leave a review for food as I personally have not eaten in there, however I have many friends who have and they have told me that it is very good and they rate it highly . The service is excellent and staff are always very friendly . It is a great pub well used by local people like myself for many years

Exceptional local pub in Blackheath. We had a wonderful Sunday lunch there. The service is exceptional - even though it was very busy. The Royal Standard has a warm, cosy and classy atmosphere and a very decent wine list along with good food. You must book on a Sunday as it gets very busy.

Grew up in the area. Lived abroad for many years. Moved back. This pub has gone under so many changes over that time and I am delighted with it now. Clientele and staff are so nice. Itβs the kinda place a pub should be; accepting and friendly no matter who you are. Staff often go above and beyond too; for example Zander always makes a proper good espresso martini (not a normal pub drink, but as I said βabove and beyondβ). If you are a nice person, come on down; if not, jog on.

Went for lunch with uncle to enjoy the rugby. Had a ok to good lunch. Uncle had the schnitzel which had thickness, crisp and juiciness to it. I had the pie and mash. I had an issue with mine but that was dealt with very well by the team. Food though is rather overpriced for what it is. Most is not home made and just a bit pricy for bung in the oven food. I could understand prices if food homemade - they need to knock a few quid off each dish. Or just make homemade food - itβs a very simple menu so could be easily done. But great service and environment, - sort the food out and it will be fantastic.

So visited for the first time with a large family group for a family funeral. The food was good, the service was great and the atmosphere was good despite the very loud quiz. I will return because it made a possibly grisly event far less horrible and the way that the staff worked with the family great to see. Well worth a visit and promoted above other pubs in the area.

We had wonderful time with a large company - friends with kids on Sunday afternoon. Very good beer range. Also the wine list was recognizable and not bad at all. Proper kitchen. Friendly staff! Enough to go back!

Perhaps unusually, we were at the Standard on a Friday for a wedding al though we usually meet here for a few drinks. However, as usual, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was delicious and the venue bright, clean and nicely laid out and the drinks reasonably priced. So very thankful that our friends had their wedding celebration here.

Absolutely love coming here. Nice food reasonably priced and a great community atmosphere. The vibe and energy is great and the staff are super friendly. The food menu is delicious and the portion control is just right.
