   Only started coming here when the new management took over a few months ago and can’t stop returning now. In a city that’s full of gentrified pubs, The Birkbeck Tavern is a proper old school East End boozer, full of history and charm. It’s spacious inside with a lovely beer garden outside that has tables in the open or under shelter with a heated lamp. They show sports events and have live events on regularly, there’s an eclectic jukebox and a pool table too. The drinks are reasonably priced and the food is delicious. Everyone is welcome, including animals, and there is a great sense of community. Best pub in London bar none!

   It's not often you walk into a pub you are not familiar with and feel welcome, there's a real family vibe, very friendly atmosphere. Enjoyed a garden BBQ, hosted by the manager who didn't set any prices just asked for donations to support the pub. I felt this was a great indicator of things to come for this place and I'm looking forward to returning when I'm in the area again.

   Went there a few weeks back and we really enjoyed ourselves. Bar staff are lovely and very friendly. Atmosphere was fantastic due to there being a DJ. Joe, who is the manager, put on a free BBQ which was such a great thought. I can't wait to go back!!

   Decent pub about 7 minutes walk from Leyton underground station and about 18 minutes from Brisbane Road. Two cask beers on handpump when I visited. Lots of outdoor seating some of it covered.

   A classic large backstreet boozer in Leyton, The Birkbeck Tavern is a hidden gem that has an old school feel and when you walk in a friendly East End welcome. I love pubs like these and more should be done to protect them.

   What a great family friendly pub. Lovely big garden area, with a pool table and darts. The staff are welcoming and friendly and great with the kids too. Will defiantly be coming back and recommending this gem to friends.

   Absolute gem of a pub! Come here for a pint, you absolutely will not be disappointed. Really welcoming, accommodating and friendly staff. Great beer, great pool table, dart board, show the footy, friendly locals, great garden. What more do you want from a pub!? Love it in here.

   Always end up in here for a sesh after my team play Orient. New landlord/landlady have improved the beer offering significantly after it had gone downhill over the past few years (used to be Camra listed). Staff and regulars all friendly. Would highly recommend this traditional backstreet east end boozer.
