Had a puzzling experience at the coop. We were trying to buy a couple of beers and some lemsip. A member of staff came over and asked for ID. I showed my ID and she then asked my friend for her ID. She wasn't carrying an ID. At this point she refused to serve us even though I had my ID and we are both over 35 (we wish we looked young enough to be ID checked but unfortunately that's no longer the case). I asked if the policy was challenge 25 and instead of answering she insisted she could lose her job if she served us. In the end she wouldn't even let us buy our medication which was pretty frustrating as our friend was not feeling well and was in need of some lemsip.

I’m an Asian looking woman over 40 who was accompanying my (white) brother-in-law while buying some beer and basic medicines. This white woman with short hair prevented him from buying anything (not even only the medicines like Lemsip?!) because I didn’t have a physical ID on me. Because it’s their policy. Told us to go to Spar. WORST COOP EVER. Will cancel my membership.

Really nice shop, very well laid out and presented well. Food to go area is great with plenty of choice and different vending machines like f'real, Reese's hot chocolate and freshly squeezed orange juice.

This is the only big supermarket of Bakewell. Big team of staff, helpful and friendly. Shelves full of stock. Clean and tidy store. There’s a big cafe inside as well. nice seating area so you can have breakfast or lunch. Perfect central location and just close to river.

Brilliantly stocked, lots of choices, quick queue and a place for my mum to have a sit down. Only knocking off one star due to the fact it was really rather dark, but given the cost of electricity I'm not surprised they want to keep some lights off

Food products are always good & the new coffee shop is a bonus although on last visit toilets were out of use & coffee shop staff were not interested or even bothered in putting out of order on the toilet doors. More interested in checking their mobile phones

Thought we'd give the Insomnia coffee shop in Bakewell a try. It is situated on the ground floor of the Co-op, an easy distance from the river and very popular 'love-locks' Bridge. It was quite busy; service took a while. Our coffees were okay, not great, but the cake, the Ultimate Brownie, was excellent. Being a part of a busy supermarket, it doesn't have quite the same relaxed atmosphere of a dedicated coffee shop, but we wish them well.
